“From the looks of your smile, you’re not hating this video call, right?”

She shook her head.

Coco bounded onto the porch, and Jax petted her. “You want to say hi to Jordan?” He turned the phone so Jordan could see her.

Jordan’s face lit up. “Hi, Coco. You’re so lucky to have her to cuddle with.”

“Want me to bring her over to cuddle with?”

“Yes, but no. That’s not a good idea, as you pointed out earlier.”

“I take it back.”

She smiled, shaking her head. “Too late. I’ve already heard it.”

“Then watch a movie with us over FaceTime. I promise to behave.”

“I don’t think behaving comes easily to you.”

“You’ve got that wrong,” he said honestly. “With the exception of in the bedroom, and when I’m around you”—which he hoped would be one and the same one day—“I’m usually very well behaved.” She didn’t look away, despite the crimson spreading over her cheeks, and he knew how much courage that took. What he didn’t know was exactly how to interpret it, but he wasn’t going to take the time to dissect it and risk losing the chance to spend more time on the video call with her. “We don’t even have to talk. I just like being around you, and I have a feeling you shouldn’t be alone tonight, either.”

Her gaze softened. “Are you sure you want to do this?”

Short of being right there beside you, “There’s nothing I’d rather do. You can even choose the movie.”

“What if it’s a chick flick?”

“I like chicks and flicks.”

She smiled. “Okay. How about 27 Dresses?”

“You’re a James Marsden fan. Good to know.”

“He’s super cute, but I love how he and Katherine Heigl have so much fun together. It always puts me in a good mood. Kind of like you do, but don’t let that go to your head.”

Too late.“27 Dresses it is. Just give me a minute to bring Coco inside and change into my own comfy clothes.” He pushed to his feet and unlocked the door.

“What does a designer wear to be comfortable?”

“Nothing, but since that’s not appropriate, I’ll be wearing sweats and a T-shirt.”

“I think I’d better hold you to that not talking offer. Do you want to get settled and call me back?”

“And give you a chance to change your mind? Hell no. I don’t usually bring women home with me, but for you, I’m making an exception.”

“You’re so funny. Does that mean I get to see your house?”

“Sure.” He flipped the camera around and cleared his throat, putting on his best Realtor voice. “As you can see, the foyer opens into a great room with a cathedral ceiling and stone fireplace.”

“I love the built-in bookshelves, and look at all those French doors.”

“They lead to a patio.” She oohed and aahed over the rich wood floors and commented on everything from the shelved half wall that separated the foyer from the dining room to the warmth of his study and the veranda overlooking the heated pool and basketball court. He couldn’t show her the gorgeous gardens or stellar views in the dark, but he hoped to one day.

After showing her the bedrooms, he set the phone on his dresser, strategically leaning it against a bottle of cologne while he changed his clothes so she could see him from the waist up—so as not to embarrass her, because if it were up to him, she’d get an eyeful of every inch of him.

“Why did you build such a big house?”
