Jordan smiled through her tears. “That sounds like Casey…Sully. I guess I have to get used to that.” Her smile faded. “I don’t know much about cults, but I’ve heard some horrible things. Was she mistreated?”
“The leader of the group is being charged with numerous accounts of rape and sexual assault. As far as we know, he’s the only one who laid a hand on Sully.”
“Oh, Casey.” Jordan closed her eyes, head bent forward, clinging to Jax’s hand. “Sully.” She looked up through damp eyes. “Does she have children?”
“No. It appears she had a guardian angel. There was a midwife who was secretly giving her and a few of the others birth control shots. We think she’s the anonymous caller.”
“Who is she?” Jax asked. “We’d like to thank her, and the Finches, too.”
Jordan nodded in agreement. “Yes, please.”
“The midwife’s name is Gaia, and we have her in protective custody. I’ll make arrangements so you can thank her, and the Finches are in a safe house until we’re sure they’re not in any danger. But I can arrange a call so you can thank them. Jordan, Sully would like to meet you, but given that she doesn’t remember a life with you in it, it might not be the reunion you’re hoping for.”
“I don’t care if she doesn’t know me. I’ll know her.” She wiped her eyes. “I can help her to remember. Can we go tonight and meet her tomorrow?” she asked hopefully.
“Yes. I highly suggest that you leave as soon as you can. The media will be all over you two and your families. They’re bloodhounds. You’ll want to alert your employer, and, Jax, I suggest you buckle down on security for everyone.”
“I’m on it.” Jax pulled out his phone and texted Brett Bad about beefing up security for both families.
“Can you fly out of a private airstrip?” Reggie asked. “They’ll be watching all the airports.”
“My cousin Victoria has a private plane. We’ll make arrangements with her to leave tonight.”
“Perfect. I’ll set up the meeting for tomorrow.”
“Can my aunt and uncle go with us?” Jordan asked.
“Yes, but I worry about overwhelming Sully. Having a family she doesn’t recognize barrel in can be scary regardless of how tough she is. I suggest you meet her first, and as far as your aunt and uncle go, I’d play that by ear.”
Jax promised to call after they’d made their travel arrangements, so Reggie could coordinate their visit. His mind was racing, thinking about how he could help Jordan through what would likely be a long, emotional, complicated journey.
“Reggie, I don’t know how to thank you for everything you’ve done,” Jordan said.
“I’m just glad your sister is alive and well. Besides, I think the thanks goes to Sully for saving herself, and to Chester and Carol Finch and the Whiskeys for keeping her safe and off the media’s radar.”
After they ended the call, nervous laughter fell from Jordan’s lips as they stood up. “Casey’s alive. I’m going to see my sister! It doesn’t feel real, but at the same time, I’ve been hoping to find her for so long, it feels more real than anything ever has.”
“It’s real, sweetheart, and the sooner we make flight arrangements, the sooner we’ll get there.”
“I have so many questions. I hope she’ll eventually want to come home.”
“Let’s not worry about what’s to come. Let’s be happy about the gift we’ve all been given. She’s obviously going to have a lot to deal with, and so are you and your family. But you need to know that I am willing to do whatever you want or need. If you want to stay in Colorado for a few weeks or months, we can rent a house there, or stay at Beau and Char’s inn. We’ll do whatever will make this easiest for the two of you.”
“You would upend your life like that for me?”
“Are you really asking me that?”
She laughed. “I’m sorry. Of course you would.” She threw her arms around him. “I love you so much. Thank you for believing in me and for pushing me to follow my heart. We need to tell my aunt and uncle and your family!”
“Let’s do it.” He reached for her hand.
When they opened the door to the den, everyone was standing there with worried expressions.
The din of their families’ conversations silenced, and her aunt rushed forward. “What happened?”
“They found Casey! She’s alive and well. She doesn’t remember us, and she goes by Sullivan Tate now. Sully. But she’s alive!” Jordan exclaimed with a rush of fresh tears. “She’s in Colorado at a place called Redemption Ranch, and we can see her tomorrow.”
Her aunt threw her arms around her, and her uncle embraced them both as cheers of relief rang out and everyone talked at once.
“I know everyone at the ranch. Birdie Whiskey is my business partner, and her family is like family to me. I’ll call over there and introduce you,” Carly said.
“Or we can just go with you,” Zev offered.
“You can stay with us at the inn,” Beau said.
“What can we do to help?” Graham asked.
“I’ll make your flight arrangements. When do you want to leave?” Jillian asked.
“Do you want us to come with you?” Jax’s mother asked.
