“I need to see what Charlotte has planned.”

“Ah….” Devin waggles his eyebrows and settles his arm over my shoulders. “I feel like Cupid over here. You’ve got to invite me to the wedding when the time comes.”

“Don’t be a dumbass. I brought up ballet first. It’s not like you’re the only reason they met.”

“I’m the only important reason.” Devin glares, drops his arm off my shoulder, and punches Gunner in the bicep.

Oh, shit. My eyes widen. That was his throwing arm.

“Asshole.” Gunner rubs his arm. “You know I hate that.”

“Yes.” Devin chuckles. “Yes, I do. That’s why I did it.”

“Fucker. I’m going to convince my sister to withhold sex from your dumbass.”

“Please.” He rolls his eyes. They’re like two teenage boys trying to one-up the other. “Your sister can’t get enough of my dick.”

“God, you’re disgusting.” Gunner cringes and turns back to me. “I don’t know why I put up with him.”

“Because you love me.” Devin wraps Gunner’s head in the corner of his arm and pulls him to his chest. “And I make you look like a stud on the field.”

“I make you look like a stud on the field.” Gunner twists and pinches Devin’s nipple, making Devin drop his arm to his side.

“Girls.” I shake my head. “You should stop before one of the coaches has a heart attack.”

The guys stop and look around as Coach Slater eats up the distance between us and zones in on where we’re standing.

Gunner waves. “Sorry, Coach. We’ll stop.”

“You’d damned well better,” Coach Slater mutters and returns to the other players.

“You’ve got to come over. Gunner has an epic backyard. Outdoor kitchen, waterfall, an enormous inground pool. Charlotte will love it.”

“Sounds like a good time. I’ll tell her about it tonight and let you know tomorrow.”

“It would be great to have you both. It’ll be a low-key event. During the early part of the evening, our kids will be there, and later, it’ll just be us guys and our significant others. It’s nice to relax for a bit with people who understand the demands of the sport.”

“I’d like that.” I didn’t have a lot of friends on my previous team. They were cutthroat, and everyone was obsessed with their own performance and stats. This team is team-focused which is a great thing.

And unlike my ex, Charlotte will fit right in. She already knows most of the players and their families.

Chapter Twenty-Six

Charlotte

Dani hands me a glass filled with blue liquid. “You’ve got to try this. It’s a new recipe Ashley whipped up. It’s called Sex in the Driveway. For once, she’s ignoring the calorie count.”

“How many calories are in it?” I arch my eyebrows.

“Don’t count them tonight. Just go with it.” Dani laughs and bounces her son on her hip. His enormous brown eyes stare up at her in adoration.

I sip on the straw and close my eyes. The late warm afternoon sun beats down on my head. “It’s delicious.”

“See. I told you.”

After taking another sip, I open my eyes and let the flavor settle on my tongue. So good. I’ve got to watch how many of these I drink. They’re that good.

The weather is sultry, which makes hanging by a pool, drinking cocktails a good idea. How the players handle the heat is beyond me. I preferred the interior court of basketball over sweat dripping between my boobs. “Thank you for inviting us.”
