Epilogue

Two weeks later.

Devin Kingand Mira Evans stood in front of their respective families, both looking as fretful and tense as each other. Each member of the family watching and waiting with curiosity of their news.

“Well…” Noah Evans— Mira’s dad urges. His brown eyes were darting from his daughter to his best friend’s son standing before him.

“I’m pregnant.” Mira blurts out suddenly. Devin groans lowly behind her when everyone in the room, save for Ayla, goes stock-still.

“Why do you keep doing that?” He utters to her quietly behind his hand. Mira shrugs helplessly and turns her attention back to everyone in the room gaping at her.

“Come again?” Her father questions, his dark brows fusing together. “Did I just hear you correctly? Did you just say you’re pregnant, or am I having some sort of stroke right now?”

“You’re not having a stroke, Daddy; I’m pregnant,” Mira says, chewing on her bottom lip.

“Who is the father?” Kate, Mira’s mother, questions, her eyes moving over to Devin shuffling from foot to foot beside her daughter.

Mira lifts her finger and points it at Devin. Devin looks down at her finger and takes her hand into his, and steps beside her. “I’m the father.” A moment of silence, Devin swallows thickly while both sets of parents look at one another, completely gobsmacked.

Mira and Devin look at one another, bewildered. “He’s not killing me; why is he not killing me?” Dev utters, leaning closer to Mira, who stares at her family, waiting for a reaction.

Ayla suddenly gasps when she notices the diamond ring on her sister's finger. “Oh my God, are you engaged?!” She exclaims, moving over to her sister and taking her hand to take a closer look at the ring.

“Oh uh, I probably should have led with that,” Mira winces, looking up at her fiancé, who rolls his eyes.

“You don’t say.” He utters dryly.

“Devin asked me in Singapore, and I said yes, we’re getting married and having a baby. Surprise.” Mira mutters sheepishly, and they both jump, startled when both sets of family erupt into cheers of joy.

“Finally!” Mira’s dad exclaims and hugs Devin’s dad.

“Oh, we’ve waited so long for the two of you to find your way back to each other again.” Devin’s mum sobs. “And you’re having a baby. I told you they would realise their love for one another sooner or later.”

Mira frowns, “Wait a minute, you all knew!”

They all laugh, “Of course we knew, Mimi. You two were the last to figure it out. The way you would look at one another, and how protective Devin was of you growing up, it was so obvious how special you were to one another.” Kate gushes, placing her hand over her chest, tears of joy flowing down her rosy cheeks. “Oh my baby’s having a baby!” She sobs.

“I can officially call you my daughter now.” Greyson King says, taking Mira’s face into his trembling hands and kissing her forehead. “You’ve made me so happy.” He adds, pulling his son in for an embrace. “The both of you.”

“I can’t believe you guys were secretly hoping Devin and I would end up together all these years.” Mira voices, shaking her head.

“Oh sweetheart, it was inevitable. Your souls were kindled from the very first day you met. You two belong together, my sweet girl.” Mira smiles at her mother and sinks into her embrace with a sigh.

Levi walks over to his brother and hugs him. “Congratulations, little brother, I’m so happy for you both. I’m stoked I’m going to be freaking uncle.” Devin laughs and hugs his older brother.

“Mimi! Oh, I can’t believe you’re engaged. And I can finally say out loud that I’m going to be an aunt. It was killing me keeping that a secret this whole time.” Ayla gushes, squeezing her baby sister. “Oh my God, Mimi, we have got so much to plan and not enough time to plan it!” Ayla bounces over to Devin. “Hey bro in law!”

Mira laughs, watching her sister tackle Devin. “Hey, you.” Mira turns and looks up at Levi, her smile faltering ever so slightly when their eyes meet.

“Hi.”

“Congratulations, I’m stoked for you both,” Levi affirms, pulling her in for a hug. Mira sighs when Levi squeezes her before letting go and stepping back. As happy as she was to be with Devin, Levi would always hold a special place in her heart. He saved her from the demons she’d been battling for years and helped her remember who she really was and how strong truly she is. And for that, she’d be grateful to him forever. Mira believed he genuinely wanted to be happy for her and Devin, and one day he might be, but at that moment, his guise slips, and she sees the sorrow behind his eyes.

“Thank you, Levi.” She takes his hand and squeezes it. “You’ll always be special to me. I hope you know that.”

Levi smiles a little and nods, “And you to me. There's a little corner of my heart with your name written all over it, Mira Evans.” He confesses, reaching up to brush away a tear that rolls down her cheek. “But Devin has always been the one, and deep down, we’ve both always known that even if we did our best to ignore it. So no hard feelings, there’s no two people more deserving of a happily ever after than the two of you.” He adds, smiling and giving her hand a firm squeeze before pulling it out of her hold and walking off. Mira watches him walk off out the front door and sighs woefully.

“Why is my girl looking so glum?” Devin questions wrapping his strong arms around his fiancée from behind. Mira smiles and sinks into his arms.
