Page 50 of Cuffed By Love

“Yes, Tinks, that Megan.” I utter stiffly and she sinks back in her chair, a look of utter shock and something I couldn’t quite put my finger on crosses her features. “Look, will you please just hide so I can answer this and get it over with.”

Mira scowls at me, “Hide? Hide where?”

I look around and glance under my desk, Mira’s eyes follow my gaze, and her scowl deepens. “You are joking?” I give her a beseeching look and she shakes her head.

“Tinks, I will owe you so big.”

“Devin, I am a grown arse woman, I am not hiding under you damn desk. Don’t be ridiculous.” Mira declares hotly but keeps her gaze on my pleading one. It takes her a couple of seconds, but she eventually caves and rolls her eyes. “Urgh! Fine, just make it quick.”

I smile and push my chair back when she scoots off her own and crawls under the desk all the while muttering profanities.

“Shh.” I urge her and she lifts her fiery gaze up at me.

“Don’t shush me!”

I push the answer button on my phone and no less than a second later Megan’s pretty face appears on my screen. I force a smile on my face. “Oh, hey baby, I was just about to hang up. What took you so long to answer?”

“Hey sweetheart, I was in a meeting, and it only just wrapped up.” I tell her and she smiles brightly, her gorgeous green eyes glittering. “How are you?”

Megan pouts her red tinted lips, “Missing you. I wish you were here.” I smile warmly and nod, fending off the urge to look down at Mira crouched between my legs.

“I miss you too. How are things over there?”

Megan sighs and takes a sip of her coffee, “Fine, but everything here feels just humdrum and stale without you baby, it’s only been a week and I’m going out of my mind missing you. How are things in London? How’s your dad, has he started the treatments yet?”

Oh hell. I can feel Mira’s heated gaze on me and the hair on the back of my neck starts to prickle. This is not how I wanted her to find out about my dad’s cancer.

I clear my throat and shift in my chair, leaning forward so I don’t get distracted and look down at Mira while I’m on the phone with Megan. I can feel myself starting to sweat. “Everything here is fine sweetheart; work has been mostly keeping me busy.”

“I bet it is, you’ve been seriously neglecting me, pookie bear.” Oh, bloody hell. I feel myself cringe at the pet name and I hear Mira’s little snort and give her a gentle kick under the desk which she returns with a pinch on my thigh. I hiss and quickly disguise it with a cough when I see Megan’s brows go up questioningly. I swat Mira’s hand away and rub the spot she pinched to ease the stinging.

“I know, I’m ever so sorry sweetheart. I’ve just been nailed down with work and trying to get stuff into order here, you know how it is.” I justify and she nods with an earnest smile.

“I understand baby.” Megan sighs and brushes her fingers through her dark, shoulder length hair. “My schedule is crammed for the next three months with that new hotel I signed up with just before you left.” I nod and listen to her while she goes on to gush about her new contract with this luxury hotel chain that she’s signed on with.

Megan is absolutely stunning, her eyes are a dark shade of green, a bright beautiful smile, displaying her pearly white teeth. Her lips though—much to my disappointment—are fillers. Apparently, her lips were ‘non-existent’ and growing up it caused her to have quite the complex, so she decided to get fillers to plump them up. They kind of resemble Kylie Jenner’s lips. I made that conclusion when I saw them both conversing at some event I was forced into attending.

Megan’s father, Duncan, was born and raised in the states before he moved to Singapore where he met her mother Nisa. Megan is a stunning mix of both her parents, she got her green eyes from her late paternal grandmother. Her dark, impossibly straight and sleek hair which is styled into a ‘lob’— as she calls it from her mother.

“Honey?” I jump out of my trance when Mira nudges my leg from under the desk.

“Hm?”

“Were you daydreaming again?”

I chuckle sheepishly and shake my head, “No, I was just thinking about my next meeting, I’m sorry what did you say?”

“I asked to see your office. The view from behind looks great.” And there it is. As if I don’t know my girlfriend. I nod and flip the camera so I could give her a view of my office. “Oh, I like it. Though it’s not really your style baby, I might need to come and spruce it up a little for you and while we’re at it we can christen your new office like we did mine and you had me up on—.” She purrs suggestively and I groan when I feel a swift punch on my left thigh from Mira. I glare down at her while the phone was facing away from me.

“Devin, I swear to God.” She mouths furiously and I shrug in return. The look on her face did make me want to laugh out loud but I swallowed it the moment it bubbled up knowing full well she would roast my arse if I dared.

“What was that?” Megan questions when she heard my audible groan. I swing the phone around and smile at Megan.

“You got me all excited sweetheart and I bashed my knee against the side of the desk.” I say and she laughs a little and places her head in her hand.

“Is that right, big boy? If I were there right now, I’d have been more than happy to take care of your every desire.”

Oh Jesus. Now is not the time, the last thing I need is a fucking boner while Mira is between my legs under the desk. What is my life? Seriously? How the hell do I shut this down without hurting her feelings?

“Uh—” It seems someone up there must really love me, or hate depending on how you look at it. A knock sounds on my door and guess who walks in—Uncle Noah, Mira’s Dad.

Well, fuck me sideways…
