Matt drops my hand, pulling me into his side. “She started out as the woman who was providing the childcare solution that we so desperately needed, so I’m very grateful to her for that reason. But as I’ve gotten to know her, I’ve felt happier and more alive than I have in a very long time. So,”—his eyes shoot to mine—“this is Skylar. She means a lot to me, and I’d appreciate your support as we figure things out.”
His mom presses a hand over her heart, her eyes going glossy with tears. “Really?” She clutches at her husband’s hand.
Matt nods, then turns to face me, his eyes full of emotion. “Yes.”
Dan Morello, who’s a big bear of a man, nods for a moment, then a grin splits his face as he winks at me before focusing on his son. “Matt. You’ve always had our support.Always.We love you, and I think I speak for both of us when I say we’re so damn happy to hear this.” His gaze shoots back to me. “Little lady, any woman who can make our son finally smile again is okay in our book.”
“We’ll look forward to having you over for dinner soon.” Claire gestures to her arm. “You know, as soon as I can manage it.”
Pleasantly surprised by their immediate acceptance, I grin. “I would love that. Thank you.”
Matt takes my hand again. “We’ll talk more about that sometime soon… but right now, if you’ll excuse us, I think I hear a song playing that Skylar might like to dance to.”
