“So much progress. I’m amazed by it and love witnessing each step of it. I’m meeting with Bill tomorrow. He wants to talk, not exactly sure about what, but it seemed like positive things.”

“Really? That’s great.” He reaches for my hand and squeezes.

“I’m excited, but I’m also trying to remain levelheaded and realistic. I don’t want to get too eager and then feel disappointed if it’s not what I’m expecting,” I confess.

“Stay positive. I know they’ve been happy with your work so far.” His comment is the reassurance I seem to need.

Nodding, I scan the menu again. “I don’t know what I want.”

“How about we get a small pizza and share a pasta dish? Best of both worlds.” His eyes twinkle.

“You’ve got yourself a deal,” I nod and lace my fingers with his.

My worry from earlier dissipates as his thumb swipes against my hand. He said I was his girlfriend. He’s invested in this relationship. There’s no reason for me to sabotage it internally now. Canaan and I have a good thing going, and I’m not going to let petty insecurities create a wedge between us.
