Maddie wasn’t going to question this statement. If Amanda believed it, then she hoped it was true.

“You’re not going to tell anyone about this, are you?” Amanda glanced over her shoulder at the sliding glass doors leading into the house where everyone was laughing and talking. “I don’t want anyone to know. I didn’t even tell Lizzie or Lulu.”

“I won’t tell a soul,” Maddie vowed. “You can trust me.”

“And not Dad either. He gets weird around the guys I date.”

Truer words were never spoken. For all his progressive thinking, Tanner was a trifle old-fashioned when it came to his little girl.

“I won’t tell your dad, but if you and Josh do start dating, he’s probably going to notice eventually. Everyone will.”

“I’ll deal with that if it happens. And that’s a big if at this point.”

Maddie had a feeling that Amanda was underestimating Josh’s feelings. And her own. She’d never talked about a young man the way she was talking about Josh.

Amanda might have her first case of adult love.
