“I might be. Any objections?”

Not a one. While it was wonderful to have all of their friends so close, she and Logan had felt the lack of privacy. No one was going to come out there and look for them. Knowing her friends, they all wanted their privacy, too.

The sun was beginning to set on the horizon as Logan led her by the hand up the steps to the treehouse observation desk. They stood side by side as the sun slowly disappeared, leaving them in darkness except for the bright moon overhead.

Logan ducked inside the treehouse and lit a few lanterns, making the already cozy space even more inviting. The bed beckoned to them, and she didn’t fight the urge to lie down on the mattress, sighing as her eyelids fluttered closed. It had been so crazy and stressful this last week. She needed this time to relax and unwind. Logan laid next to her, the warmth radiating from his body.

“What are you thinking about?”

Ava was quite sure that her husband had never asked that question of the other women he’d dated in the past. But for some reason, he was obsessed with finding out her thought patterns, asking her at least a few times a week…

What are you thinking about?

More often than not, her answers were fairly boring. Her latest work in progress, bills that needed to be paid, something about the kids, or maybe her mother who was getting up in age. Tonight it wasn’t any of those things. She’d been thinking about Tanner, Maddie, and Abby since the fundraising dinner, but Logan deserved better.

“You. I’m thinking about you.”

She opened her eyes to see her husband looking comically shocked at her reply. As if she never, ever thought about him, which was bullshit, of course. Sometimes life got in the way and made it difficult, but he was always forefront in her mind along with the twins.

“Me? Little old me? Can I ask why?”

Normally, she’d give him a smart-ass answer, but she wasn’t in that mood. Not this night.

“Because I love you.”

His expression softened and he leaned over to drop a slow, sweet kiss on her lips that made her tingle all the way down to her toes. Just like he had when she’d first kissed him so many years ago. For a long time, she’d been sure that the feelings would lessen, the arousal not as strong, but it didn’t happen. If anything, it was more.

“I love you, good girl. More than you can ever know.”

That made her smile. He always said that he loved her more. It wasn’t true. She loved him just as much.

“I think I do know. I love you the same.”

His fingers trailed down her arm, igniting an entire storm of emotions inside. He had that look in his eyes that she knew so well.

“How much?”

She didn’t want to play this game all evening. They’d come out here for a reason, and she was ready to get to it.

“A lot. Tons. Now kiss me before I change my mind and march right back into the house leaving you out here with a set of blue balls.”

He threw back his head and laughed before pressing a kiss first to her forehead and then the tip of her nose.

“That’s my girl. So romantic and flowery with her words of encouragement.”

She ran her palm down his torso, coming to rest right near the button fly of his jeans.

“I was trying to be romantic when I told you I loved you.”

“Mission accomplished. You know what? I think we talk too much.”

At moments like this she couldn’t agree more. With nimble fingers she popped the top button on his jeans. He was already hard and ready for her.

“Then let’s shut up.”
