I hold up my hand. “I reminded him that I have not signed an NDA and can start my own company. The smartest thing I could do is have you help me lead it because we’d both become dangerously wealthy overnight.”

His mouth hooks up into that heart-stopping grin. “What makes you think I’d want to work with you?”

“Well, you did make me come really hard last night, so I figure we could probably work out a business relationship.”

He laughs, and something about that settles my racing heart. I swallow hard, and his brows stitch together. He reaches out, grasping both of my hands. “Are you really okay?”

“I will be.”

“What’s going to happen now?”

“No doubt my father has already gathered the board members in his office and is delivering the bad news. He’s also going to try to have Jackson fired, but he doesn’t have the votes for that either.”

“What’s next?”

“We get another chance to talk to the board tomorrow, and they’ll vote on the initiatives.”

“That sounds amazing. Why do you look so sad?” he says, cupping my jaw.

I put my hand over his. “I knew my father was a hard, unfeeling man, but some part of me always looked up to him. And today, I lost the ability to do that.”

Joe checks that the coast is clear and then surrounds me with his arms. “I’m sorry, Rand. Truly.”

Resting my head on his shoulder, I shake my head. “He never even asked me about what happened yesterday. I had Edgerton share the report with him, and…nothing.”

I look at the vaulted ceiling and the ridiculously expensive bespoke lighting fixtures, blinking back tears.

“Wait. He didn’t call to check on you?”

I thin my lips, hoping the stupid tears stay in place. “Nope.”

Joe tightens his hug. “I’m sorry,” he says, kissing my forehead.

An idea takes hold, and I step out of his embrace. “I know that you didn’t want to post anything until we got the final approval from the board, but I think we need a head of steam going into tomorrow’s meeting.”

“Yeah?” he asks, troublemaker smile at the ready. “You wanna post now?”

I nod. “I really, really do.”

He rubs his hands together. “Let’s do it.”

I pull up the pictures that Sherry took of us and, without overthinking it, I type up the sincere apology that Joe and my employees deserve. Joe reviews it, makes a couple of quick suggestions, and I post it on all of my social media.

Shaking his head, he pulls me in for a strong kiss. “Damn, that’s sexy.”

I inhale sharply, my cock instantly aware. “I’m a man of my word.”

Joe palms the hard, aching length as he growls in my ear, “So am I.”
