Luke couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face. “Sure thing boss.”
I made my way outside to grab some more stuff. My car was packed with all my clothes and shoes. I carried in arm loads of my clothes and hung them in the closet. We were running out of room fast. I was going to have to decide what clothes could be folded, but that could wait until another day.
Merging your life with someone else’s was hard. He had a lifetime full of stuff in his house as did I. I hadn’t gone too far overboard when getting stuff for my house since I knew at one point I would move in with Luke. There was still so much stuff.
My overflowing closet would have to be cut down to fit Luke’s clothes in it too. My hair products and makeup would now cover the bathroom counter. Men were simple, easy. They didn’t need twenty different towels of different sizes and colors. They needed two towels to get by and they would be fine.
Gone were the days of Luke having only five plates and a glass in the kitchen cupboard. I filled it with my parent’s old plate set they had given me. I didn’t want to overwhelm Luke. I didn’t want him to think I was taking over his house. I really didn’t want to scare him off.
The day went by super fast with getting everything moved in from my house. I already had a renter that was itching to move in. Gracey helped me unpack boxes and get everything to the right rooms. It helped that Luke didn’t have much for kitchen stuff or bathroom stuff. The boys carried in all the furniture and put everything back together. Everything was finally starting to come together.
Once Gracey and Drake left I showed Luke what I did with his stuff. Moving around the house he just nodded and said okay every time I showed him there was a change.
“Is that okay?” I asked him as we made our way up the stairs.
“Yeah. Why wouldn’t it be?”
“Well I just don’t want you to feel like I’m over taking everything.” I turned at the landing.
Pulling me into his arms he kissed my cheek. “I can’t tell you how long I’ve waited for you to come in and take over everything.”
I couldn’t help but smile. I showed him into the guest bedroom and his office, man-cave area. He was just glad I labeled what was a bill and what he had already paid.
“What are you doing with the other room?” Luke questioned.
“Uh I don’t know yet.”
“Let’s keep it empty for now.” His arms snaked around my shoulders.
“Okay.” I leaned into his embrace. I hoped he was thinking what I was when it came to that room.
Heading down the stairs I looked around the house. It wasn’t just his stuff and my stuff. It was ours. It was starting to look like our home.
