Chapter 8- Wesley
The weaker wolf whines as I press my foot further into his neck. I’m relieved at the feeling of bones snapping underneath my weight, but Alana whips past me. My eyes travel to where she’s run off to, and I pull myself off of the wolf’s neck and press my feet into its chest instead.
You’re not going anywhere, fucker.
Alana is making herself appear bigger, hackles raised as she shields a girl. The girl is dressed in what looks like tattered rags, and her short blonde hair looks as if it’s been lopped off with a machete.
I look down at the wolf and try and will him to transform. I need to question him.
Alana transforms and kneels in front of the girl. “Are you okay?!”
That’s it. I launch my paw against the wolf’s chin. His eyes roll into the back of his head, and his body goes limp.
I transform and hurry over to Alana and the girl.
“Who are you?”
The girl throws her arms up into the air and cries, “Don’t hurt me, please! I just want to go back home!”
I look at Alana, hoping that she can talk some sense into the girl. We’re never going to get anywhere if she doesn’t talk.
I point at the limp wolf and say, “Did he capture you?”
She wears a horrified expression before she manages a slight nod. “Him and some other wolves… they left the door open, and I escaped.”
Alana wraps her arms around the girl and says, “Escaped from where?”
“I don’t remember… all I know is that this huge black wolf was standing over me one minute, and then the next minute he was gone.”
“This has to be one of the people that’s taking missing girls.” I kneel in front of her and ask, “Are there more girls?”
The girl has a vacant look in her eye as she says, “I just remember so much crying. There was so much crying, and it smelled so bad. It smelled like- ” Her fingers wrap tightly around Alana’s wrist. “It smelled like death.”
This has to be one of the girls. I nod and say, “We can take you back to our camp. You can trust us. We’re looking for more girls like you.”
Alana says, “He’s right. What’s your name?”
“Brittney.”
I say, “Well, hi Brittney. We’re here to save you.”
The trip back to camp is quick. We run through the woods with Brittney clinging onto my fur. She’s small, and her fingers slip occasionally as she tries to hold on.
When we get back to camp, Kim and Harrison are already standing by the bonfire.
Alana is the first to transform. “We found someone!”
Kim’s eyes widen as Brittney climbs off of my back. “Holy shit.”
I transform and I stretch my arms over my head. “She said that all she remembers is other girls and a big black wolf.” I smack my hand against my forehead. “We need more information.”
Alana steps forward and slips her arm over Brittney’s shoulders. “Let’s get you some food and a fresh change of clothes.”
She pulls the girl towards her cabin and Harrison’s voice booms across the bonfire.
“Is she a werewolf?”
“Pretty sure. It’s not like she could transform right now anyway. She’s too weak.”
