“Did he ever mention Dr. Jonathon Greco?” She shook her head, frowning at the women.

“No, I don’t know who that is. His doctor at the VA was Dr. Evelyn Carter. I liked her a lot, but I wasn’t sure that what she had him on was helping him.”

“That’s very helpful,” said Doc. “Did he have friends? Maybe someone from his unit that went to the VA with him?”

“Yes. There were two guys that would pick him up to go to his appointments. Both came by after he died. They looked terrible, but I thought it was perhaps the stress of what Tim had done.”

“Do you have names, phone numbers, anything would help?”

“Yes, I’ll be right back,” she said, heading into her bedroom.

Cade looked around the room, glancing at the walls. There were pictures of Charmaine and Tim on their wedding day, one taken on a beach, probably their honeymoon. There was a photo of him in his uniform and another of the two of them smiling into the camera. Happy pictures, happy couple, happy memories. There was no indication to him that Charmaine was anything except truthful. It was clear that she still loved Tim McDonough.

“Here you go,” she said, handing Cade the slip of paper. “Franco Miretti was one of his best friends, and he was also a medic. The other guy, AC Gardner, was just another guy in the unit. They both looked terrible when I saw them last.”

“Thank you, this is very helpful,” said Bree. “I might suggest if you don’t mind, that you seek some therapy as well. None of this was your fault, Charmaine.”

“Thank you for that,” she smiled. “I actually have been seeing someone and talking to my pastor. I did blame myself initially but then realized that I couldn’t control Tim or anything he did. He was a strong-willed man.”

Leaving the apartment, they drove back toward the city and their hotel.

“A strong-willed man,” whispered Cass.

“What was that, baby?” asked Cade.

“She said he was a strong-willed man. A strong-willed man doesn’t exactly describe someone who would take his own life. By all accounts, he loved his wife and his friends, so how does a strong-willed man suddenly find himself in such agony that he has to take his own life?”

“That’s what we’re going to find out,” said Doc.
