“Good,” King said.

“Thank you,” Allana said, clapping her hands together.

“We haven’t done anything yet,” King said.

She shook her head. “No. The thank you is for my father. He’s safe, because of you three.”

She kissed me on my cheek then went to kiss both Gunnar and King on theirs.

“I’m grateful. For all of you,” she said and smiled at each of us. “But I need to get clean and dressed. I want to see my father now.”

ALLANA

Two weeks had passed by, and I had never been happier in my entire life. I had everything I wanted, and I felt safe thanks to King, Gunnar, and Declan. I also no longer had to live without my father. Even if it was only for the season.

Every morning, I wake up with a smile on my face. And this morning was no different because I was having breakfast in the garden with my father. It was the first time I was able to actually spend any quality time with him since he arrived. I had been so busy with work that I hadn’t had much of a chance to visit with him.

I headed to the garden, finding my father sitting on one of the benches, staring out over the garden as the sun shone along the colorful leaves blowing along the landscape. I approached him, smiling still.

“Good morning, Papa,” I said.

He twisted to face me. “Good morning,ma belle fille.”

“Are you ready for breakfast?” I asked.

He nodded and stood from the bench. “As ready as I’ll ever be.”

I giggled and slipped my arm through father’s and we walked deeper into the garden. To my favorite spot. Gunnar was already there, putting the finishing touches on our table. A fire roared in the chimera, surrounding the table with warmth.

“Bon Appétit,” he said as we took our seats.

“Merci, Gunnar,” Papa said.

Gunnar lowered his head in a gracious bow toward my father and as he turned to walk away, he winked at me. I shook my head, but I couldn’t fight the smile that tugged on my lips. My life seemed as perfect as it was going to get.

“This place is truly magnificent,” Papa said as he slathered a layer of dark chocolate on a crepe the size of his plate.

I nodded. “It truly is. I love it here, and I’m so glad to share it with you.”

He added a few berries to his breakfast before rolling the thin pancake. He drizzled more chocolate over the top before picking up his fork and cutting into the chocolatey mess. I smiled at him. He was like a kid.

“I can understand why you love this place so much,” he said before shoving a bite of crepe into his mouth.

“Can you?” I asked as I popped a berry into my mouth.

He nodded. “The place suits you. And those three men seem to be incredibly protective over you.”

I nodded with a smile. “They are.”

“Are you seeing one of them?” he asked.

I blushed. “Sort of, Papa.”

I didn’t know how to tell him I was seeing all three of them, much less how to begin answering that question. I wasn’t sure if he would look down on my lustrous ways or if, perhaps, he would laugh at my choice. In the end, I decided that until I knew for sure, he didn’t have to know anymore than I had already said, and left my answer at that.

He smirked as he chewed another bite of his food. “That is a good color on you, the red. I haven’t seen you this happy in years.”
