“All right,” I finally said. “You both have just one more chance. Don’t burn it.”
A knock sounded on my door. I peeked around Gunnar’s massive frame to see who it was. I glared at Bastian as he stood in my opened doorway, clearly interrupting and not giving a damn.
“What do you want, Bastian?” I asked.
“An urgent message for you madame,” he said and brought a folded piece of paper over to me.
“Great. Thanks,” I said.
“My pleasure, madame,” he said and left my office.
If I didn’t know any better, the cocky way in which he had delivered the note, he knew what it had said. I pressed my lips together. I was going to have to do something about him sooner rather than later.
I unfolded the piece of paper and sucked in a breath. My eyes scanned the words, but I couldn’t make heads or tails of anything. Only that the note pertained to my father being in danger, and the message was from Collin.
Gunnar appeared at my side as I collapsed into tears. I dropped the note on the floor, next to my feet as I leaned into Gunnar’s comfort. Declan picked up the piece of paper and read the message out loud.
“Your fraternization with beasts is over. You belong to me. Come home now or I will be forced to punish your father. Collin.”
Gunnar pulled away, his eyes darkening. “That son of a bitch!”
“Who is Collin?” Declan asked.
I opened my mouth, but Gunnar beat me to it. He said, “Her ex-boyfriend.”
“Oh. He seems to be under a different impression,” Declan said. “I can help change that for him.”
I sighed. “I have to go. If something happened to my father, I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself.”
Gunnar said, “Declan, get King. He needs to know of this. I’ll stay here with Allana.”
Declan nodded and rushed out to do Gunnar’s bidding.
“You don’t understand, I have to go,” I said. “I couldn’t ask for you to stand up for me again. He won’t stop. Not until he gets what he wants.”
“You’re not going alone,” Gunnar said. “You don’t have to face a man like him alone ever again. I promise you that.”
“That doesn’t mean I want to see any of you get hurt either,” I mumbled.
Gunnar chuckled. “You’re sweet, my darling, but it would take a whole lot more than a man like Collin to hurt me, Declan, or even King.”
“But it’s not your fight,” I said.
“Consider this a sign of good faith then, hmm?” he said. “Let us protect you. King will see to it he never gets to see you again.”
“I’m more worried about protecting my father from that monster than I am worried about my own protection,” I said. “I can’t let anything happen to him. It would kill me.”
“Don’t worry, Allana,” he said gently, “we’re going to take care of it.”
I nodded. But I was only giving in for the moment. I couldn’t stand the idea of the three men that have captured my attention, my arousal, and close to winning my heart rush into harm's way. They had no idea what Collin was capable of, and I couldn’t let them fight a battle that wasn’t theirs to rush off to.
Declan returned sooner than expected with King rushing in behind him, looking ready to kill.
“Where is he?” King demanded.
Declan handed him the note. King’s eyes scanned every word before crumbling the paper in his fist.
“He won’t touch a hair on your father’s head. I’ll see to it,” King promised.
