“What are you going to do if she doesn’t choose you?” I asked as curiosity got the better of me.
Gunnar shrugged. “Haven’t gotten that far, not that I want to think about that.”
“Likewise,” Declan said. “Not like it would do us any favors. If she’s made her choice, the only option we have is to deal with it.”
“Why?” I asked. I was shocked that both men I was in competition for Allana believed I would be her choice. It was nice to hear, don’t get me wrong. But I was still surprised nonetheless.
“Because we all know who she’s going to pick,” Declan answered. His icy blue eyes settled on me. A flash of shadow of jealousy crossed through them quickly before he pulled his gaze away and stared at the tile floor.
“Me?” I asked. “You both think she’s going to choose me?”
The men responded with a brief look and a barely noticeable nod.
“Why?” I asked. “I figured she was going to choose one of you. More than likely Gunnar, if I’m being honest.”
Declan glared at me.
“No offense,” I added. “She met Gunnar first. It makes the most sense to me.”
“I brought her here in hopes she would help you out of your funk, which she did,” Gunnar said. “It made more sense for her to choose you after everything. And even more so once she found out about the plan and instantly fell into your bed.”
I frowned. “It wasn’t instantly.”
“My point is the same,” Gunnar said.
I shook my head. “Regardless, if she does end up choosing one of you, I won’t stand in the way.”
Gunnar and Declan stared at me like I had said the last thing they had ever expected me to say.
“What?” I asked. “I’m being serious.”
“You, King Heller,” Declan said, “wouldn’t stand in the way of us? Since when?”
“Since she deserves the right to choose who makes her happy and that’s all that matters to me,” I said.
“Her happiness?” Gunnar asked.
I nodded. “Yes. Why is that so hard to believe?”
“Because,” Declan said. “the King I grew up with wouldn’t let anyone stand in the way of a woman he wanted”
“She’s different.” I sighed. “I’m different.”
“If what you say is true, then I have to agree,” Gunnar said. “Allana seems to have that effect on people.”
“Most people,” I added.
“She’s drop dead gorgeous,” Declan said. “Smart as hell.”
“Curves for days,” Gunnar added. “Lips to die for. A killer attitude to match her features.”
I snorted. “Oh, this is just fantastic. We’re all in love with her.”
“You’re right,” Gunnar said after several seconds. “I am in love with her, and I would do anything for her. So, if she doesn’t choose me, I won’t stand in the way either.”
“I would protect her with my last breath,” Declan said. “I suppose I do have some feelings for her?”
“Some?” I asked, raising an eyebrow as I stared at Declan.
