“You haven’t asked a question,” Milo said.

“Fine. Where am I?”

“In Aidan’s home,” Milo said.

“Which is where?” I asked.

“Underville,” Milo said simply.

“Uh… where?” I asked.

“Are you going to repeat your questions like this? If so, I’m afraid no number of answers are going to do any good,” Milo stated.

Calvin snorted. “Like you give the answers in the first place.”

Aidan chuckled.

My head throbbed.

“Fine. We’re in Underville or wherever. Why do you need my amulet?” I asked after breathing through some of the poundings.

“Do you not know what that is?” Milo asked, pointing to the charm hanging from the chain around my neck.

“Are you going to continue answering my questions with another question because if so, asking them isn’t going to do any good.”

“And there’s the spunk I adore,” he mused.

I rolled my eyes. “That’s not an answer.”

Calvin leaned forward. “I would love to hear this as well.”

There was something about the way he spoke and glared at Milo that had me thinking nothing about this situation was pleasant for him either. The jury was still out on Aidan’s position.

“Yes, yes…” he said. “Very well. There is a legend that surrounds your element for those here. One centered on a hero who banished evil for a short time. She was a powerful witch. And the peace she heralded was long-standing. That amulet belonged to her.”

“No, it didn’t. It’s an heirloom,” I said. “There aren’t any witches in my family, and I didn’t know magic existed until tonight.”

“Interesting,” Milo said and smiled.

I didn’t like how he smiled at me. Or how Calvin stared at me for that matter. I didn’t bother turning my attention to Aidan. I felt his eyes drilling a hole into the back of my head.

“The story goes,” Milo continued, “on her death bed, the white witch infused her powers into the amulet. Only the one who the amulet deemed was worthy could wear it and use it. Many have tried. All had failed.”

I shook my head. “Yeah… I’m officially convinced I’m in lying in a coma on some hospital bed.”

Milo leans back on the couch, stretching his arms along the length. “More reason for you to help us. So, you can wake up.”

I breathed in deep, and a tingling sensation washed over me. I’m instantly aroused, and my body urged me to lean into Milo. That tiny voice told me to give in to the feeling, and I almost collapsed into his arms.

I bit my lip, and the painfulness sobered me out of the moment. Thankfully.

I stood from the couch and faced the men who looked up at me. “This is too much for me to take in right now, and my head is throbbing. I need sleep. Or to wake up from this nightmare.”

Calvin stood. “I can help you get comfortable.”

“Not necessary,” I said holding up a hand to stop him. I turned to Aidan, “Do you have a guest bed?”

“Aww. No more questions?” Milo asked.
