I nodded and yawned. “Much better.”
“Good,” he said, voice deep.
My eyes closed and I relaxed into the peacefulness of our afterglow.

MILO
I thought I had heard Alice speak. I sucked in a breath of relief, and in my haste to see for myself that she was okay, I rushed into the doorway of the mill.
I found myself wishing I hadn’t reacted so hastily. The image would forever be burned into my mind. Along with the pain that ripped through my heart.
Calvin was busy sucking off Alice’s face and removing her clothes. I huffed at the sight. It took everything inside me not to interrupt them. So, I stood outside of the doorway to wait for him to finish adding salt into my already raw wound. Though I still wanted to rush in there and pull Calvin’s ass off of Alice, I wouldn’t. I was going to do the right thing and wait until she was asleep before confronting the man.
Aidan took point on the other side of the door and chuckled.
I glared at him.
He met my eyes and shrugged. “It’s beautiful. Is it not?”
I narrowed my eyes. “Easy for you to say. You’ve already had her.”
He nodded. The smile that stretched his lips rubbed in the fact that I was the furthest from being gifted a chance with her. The fact burned me.
Fine. Whatever. I didn’t really care.
I shook my head and went to the fire, kicking dirt into the pit to snuff out the flames as Alice’s cries of pleasure bled into the air. I groaned. As if the fire wasn’t enough to draw unwanted attention, she had to go and flaunt to the world her great lovemaking. We risked enough being camped out for longer than we should have been, waiting for her to wake up from her injury. We couldn’t afford to dilly-dally, much less throw caution to the wind just to satisfy an itch.
I wondered what angered me more. The idea that she was just recovering from a near death experience, or the fact she was fucking Calvin.
Calvin knew better. Alice, however, didn’t know any better.
Sex was not part of the deal. He knew this.
In fact, I even told him not to go falling in love with anyone when we visited his friend, King, not too long ago. Yet he seemed to take every word I said and let in one ear and out the other.
A sour taste filled my mouth. I wanted to throw up. I wanted to beat Calvin’s face into a bloody pulp even more. I wanted to run. To kill something.
He knew exactly how I felt about Alice. He also understood how profound that was for a man like me. Yet he had to go in and beat me to her. The bastard. He had better have a good excuse. Otherwise, I wasn’t going to take it easy on him.
I shouldn’t take it easy on him. Alice either. The two of them just loved challenging everything I said every single step of this god-forsaken journey.
“Jealousy doesn’t suit you,” Aidan said as he strolled off into the woods for God knows what.
“Good riddance,” I muttered under my breath and closed my eyes against more loud moans of ecstasy.
I glared into the doorway considering not hanging around for the finale of this shit show I was forced to witness. But I couldn’t stand the thought of being too far from Alice. Not after what happened. Even if I did leave, I would be forced to come back just to make sure she was okay.
I couldn’t leave her for good even if I tried. And I had, several times since she joined us. She did the unthinkable. The impossible. She got me to care about her.
Thankfully, silence soon fell through the air, and I breathed in a sigh of relief. Not much later, Calvin stepped into the night, adjusting his trousers no less. It was as if he was purposefully trying to rub it in my face he had sex with Alice before me. He met my gaze and nodded.
“I think she’ll be just fine,” he said as he leaned against the outside wall of the mill. He gazed up at the stars and sighed. A satisfied smile stretched his lips.
“Still going with the whole not having any feelings for the girl stance?” I asked, joining him on the other side of the door. I needed to keep my distance and my anger in check.
He snorted. “I told you exactly what I felt. It’s not my fault you didn’t listen.”
