Calvin frowned and nodded. “I’m sorry you feel that way. Not that I blame you for wanting to go home. Milo gets under everyone’s skin.”

I snorted. “That’s the understatement of the year.”

“He’s hard to handle, but trust me, he’s softened a lot when it came to you. He probably feels the same way I do,” Calvin said.

“And how is that?” I asked, curiosity getting the better of me.

“I feel very protective over you,” he said.

Aidan came into the mill. “I do as well.”

I smiled. My heart swelled hearing those words. “I feel the same way about you both.”

Calvin’s chest puffed up and Aidan smiled like a little kid on Christmas morning. I shook my head and laughed under my breath.

“You both have made this whole adventure bearable. Truly,” I added.

“Give him time,” Aidan said. “He has merits.”

I snorted. “Sure. Being a pain in the ass is his biggest one.”

“He was extremely worried about you,” Calvin said. “I wasn’t lying about that earlier.”

I nodded. “Well, he has a very off-putting way of showing it.”

I copped a squat on the collection of hay that Calvin and I had recently had sex on and stared out the doorway, past Calvin and Aidan. I huffed a sigh and fought against the urge to yawn.

“Feeling better, my beautiful rose?” Aidan asked.

I nodded. “I am. Thank you for helping to calm me down.”

Both of them nodded.

“Get some good rest,” Calvin said.

“I’ll try to,” I said. “I highly suggest you tell Milo to keep his distance from me. I don’t want to see him right now.”

He nodded.

“A choice may need to be made,” Aidan said, referring to his previous statement.

“Maybe,” I said. “But I’m not in a position to make any decision right now.”

“Sleep well,” Calvin said.

“Thanks. You both should get some sleep soon too,” I said.

“When Milo gets back,” Calvin said. “I will.”

I nodded. “Goodnight.”

Calvin and Aidan left the mill. I waited for a few moments before laying down. I overheard the murmured chat Calvin was having with Aidan. It almost sounded tense, but I wasn’t able to pick out any words to tell for sure.

Not that I was willing to get up and settle another argument. He and Aidan were discussing something. My pulse thrummed through my ears much like it always did when I was coming down from being so angry.

I stretched and yawned before laying down on the hay.

Aidan had mentioned I should choose one of them. But I wasn’t sure if I could do that. Milo wasn’t even going to be on the list of options for much longer if he didn’t pull his head out of his ass and stop trying to control my life. He didn’t have a say in any of it, and the fact that he acted as though he was in charge of me irritated me beyond belief. I wouldn’t even be in this mess if it wasn’t for him trying to steal my amulet away.
