Not only had I run through a giant brick building, but I was somewhere else entirely. Twice now something impossible happened to me. Something that made me think of it as magic.
But one thing was for certain. Wherever I was, it was far from the men trying to steal my amulet. So, that was a win. Now all I had to do was figure out where the heck I was and find a way back home.

CALVIN
Getting the amulet was going to be a lot harder than what Milo had initially led me to believe. That much became apparent the second I first laid eyes on Alice. Well, Allison, as her name tag had read. I doubted very much she knew what she was doing when she blasted us with fire, and that made me wonder about what exactly Milo had gotten the three of us into.
A witch with skill was dangerous. A witch without control of her magic was deadly.
I stared at the space in the building she had disappeared through and shook my head. With every moment spent with Milo, I found myself questioning my agreement with his deal more and more every day.
“You didn’t tell me she could do magic,” I snapped. “That complicates things more than you had led me to believe.”
“Well, she certainly is a spark fly,” Milo said. “Albeit an untrained one.”
I rounded on him and stabbed a finger into his chest. “She nearly burned off my face!”
“A shame,” he said with an exaggerated frown. “Would have been an improvement.”
I growled as I balled my fists. I was seconds from making improvements tohisface.
“She’s new,” Aidan said. “Only budding.”
He was a man of few words, and even less of those made much sense. This just so happened to have been one of the exceptionally few times I was able to track what he was talking about, and the idea he had input was as aggravating as it was annoying.
“No one asked you,” I snapped.
He shrugged and smiled in his insane way. I shook my head and settled my attention back on Milo. “Give me one good reason not to go apeshit on your face right now.”
“Only one?” he asked. “I’m prettier than you.”
I screamed as I turned and punched the side of the building. My wolf wanted to come out and rip the man to shreds and it was taking every ounce of strength in me not to let that happen. I needed him to get back home. The last thing I wanted was to be stuck on this land. It smelled weird, and beautiful girls seemed to have a knack for fire magic.
“Relax, Calvin. She’s right where we want her,” Milo said.
How could he be so calm? He acted like he expected all of this to happen. Once again, I was the last to know the details of his plans. I didn’t know what angered me more. His personality or the still unclear details of the deal that he made with me.
I should have let Camelia take my head. Saved myself from the relentless annoyance and aggravation of being in Milo’s presence. Anything was sounding better than the situation I had found myself in. Regardless, I took the bait.
“Where is that exactly?” I asked as I rubbed my hand, raw from the rough stone the building the girl disappeared through was made from.
“Passionate pink!” Aidan announced and chuckled to himself.
I sighed and shook my head. He was definitely insane. The rumors surrounding events that led to his insanity were making more and more sense with each passing hour I spent with him. I still wasn’t sure why he had to be the wizard to help us. Maybe it was the fact that he and I were the only ones stupid and desperate enough to strike a deal with the likes of Milo.
“The trees bleed crimson,” Aidan said.
I glanced at him briefly. The cursed forest was noted for many things. Being gentle and showing mercy to those wandering on its land wasn’t one of them. He truly was trying to kill the girl if that’s what it took.
Aidan sniffed the air and looked around before chuckling to himself.
I glared at Milo. “Dusang Forest?”
Milo nodded.
I shook my head and sighed before asking, “Why, pray tell, would that be exactly where we wanted her?”
