“The prophecy was true!” Calvin shouted.
Milo smiled. “I’ll be damned.”
I did a double take. His eyes were different. He no longer had the slit pupils like a cat’s. “Your eyes.”
He nodded. “I was cursed to be a Cheshire. You, my darling, released me. Now I’m just your average cat.”
I laughed.
My men and I celebrated for the rest of the night. When sunrise came, we headed to the spot I needed to go to in order to return home. Jasper was already sitting there, waiting on us.
“You ready for this?” Calvin asked.
I nodded. “I am.”
“Good, cause, we’re coming with you,” he finished.
“Duh. I told you I couldn’t live without you,” I said.
Milo and Aidan opened up a portal in front of me. It was like a window into Seattle. I smiled to myself.
There really was no place like home.
EPILOGUE: ALLISON
I couldn’t wait to get home. The second my foot stepped back on Seattle ground, I was antsy and excited.
Calvin was the first to step through. He was followed by Milo and Aidan. I stepped through the portal and into their arms, laughing giddily. Jasper was the last to step through. He took a little while longer to do so. My thoughts on the reason were he was nervous about coming here, even though he volunteered.
Why? I wasn’t sure. But that was the only reason I could come up with for his hesitance.
He stepped through, and the portal closed behind him. He sucked in a deep breath, and I watched as the tension fell away from him on the exhale.
“Isn’t it great to be back?” I asked.
He nodded.
I smiled. “You should come with us. It will give you a little more time to hang out with Calvin.”
“Yeah, man. I want to finish our chat about what you had been up to this entire time,” Calvin said.
He smiled softly and shrugged. “I couldn’t impose.”
“It’s not an opposition if you were invited,” I said, waving his worry away. “Besides, I won’t take no for an answer.”
“Do yourself a favor,” Milo said. “Just go with it. You’ll thank me later.”
I playfully scoffed. “Hey, what’s that supposed to mean?”
He settled his gorgeous hazel eyes on me. A slight curve stretched his lips. “It means you are quite convincing.”
“Uh-huh,” I said and crossed my arms over my chest. But even I knew I wasn’t convincing in the slightest. My cheeks were still puffed out as my lips stretched over my teeth in a semi-permanent grin.
Jasper took a few moments to think it over. Eventually, he shrugged and shook his head. “What the hell?”
“Now we’re talking!” I said and turned to face my men and stepped between them to take the lead.
Fifteen minutes later, we turned onto my street. I picked up the pace, anxious to be home. As I turned to face the house, I spotted my sister’s old car in the driveway. “Yes! My sister is home!”
