He rolled to his side and pulled me in close, somehow managing to roll me to my side as well. Chase kissed my shoulder as his hand moved between my legs. I gasped and wiggled as his fingers danced along my sex again.

“I want you to sleep really well tonight,” he whispered.

“Mission accomplished,” I said.

He chuckled in my ear. “Not yet, my sweet.”

With his warmth wrapped around me, and his fingers doing such delightful things to my clit, I leaned into him running my hands over every inch of his body that I could touch. Then my orgasm hit, and I softly moaned. He removed his fingers, licking them clean before resettling behind me.

“Goodnight, my sweet,” he whispered.

“Goodnight, Chase,” I said and closed my eyes.

I fell into the deepest sleep I had in as long as I could remember. So deep, I didn’t even dream. I was simply surrounded by peacefulness and warmth.

JASPER

It had been three days since Cassie had called me a monster.

I had left her on the porch without another word and went for a long walk through the woods to think. Everything was falling apart and had gone so far in the wrong direction that I was at a loss. What I had thought was a blessing ended up being a horrible mistake.

I always hated what I had become. It wasn’t like I was given a choice in this life. This creature was forced onto me.

So, it went without saying that I was ashamed of my bear. Though I had come to accept him more and more, I still had a long way to go. That being said, it wasn’t a surprise that Cassie would feel the same way. All in all, I couldn’t blame her for calling us monsters. Especially with the way we had acted.

Never mind the way Kai had screwed things up.

Cassie’s reaction was my greatest fear when it came to my bear. Her words were the very reason why I wanted to keep my bear a secret no matter what. And up until that night, I started to believe that she might be the one person in the entire world I could share my bear with. But with that fight, I found out just how wrong I was.

I had Kai, as usual, to thank for that.

He was so determined to make sure no one got close to him. So much so that he was also his own worst enemy. In the time I had spent keeping my distance to allow things to settle down, I had no interaction with him. With his absence came the assumption that he refused to sleep under the same roof as Cassie. Chase and I were both aware of the cave he still had from before we found our current home. It wasn’t much of a stretch to assume that he was likely back there, which was a smart decision for him. After having a few days to cool off, he would start coming around more and more again.

I ended up staying out all night long that first night, returning to the cabin at dawn. But instead of going inside immediately, I decided to sit out on the porch swing and wait for Chase to make breakfast.

Once the air held the first hints of his cooking, I joined Chase in the kitchen as he worked. I breathed in deep the aroma of bacon and sausage. My mouth watered the instant the scent touched my nose. Then, on the end of that scent, was Cassie. Her scent was coming from Chase. Instinctively, I wanted to tear him to pieces. At least, my bear wanted to.

With the way he was covered in her scent, it wasn’t much of a leap to assume he slept with her. The thought made my bear aggressively stretch against my frame. I winced against the painful sensation and braced myself against the counter.

I fought against the shift. Because what the bear didn’t realize was this was Chase. He didn’t have a devious, betraying bone in his body. If he had sex with her, it was because she wanted him too. It was her choice. I had to keep that in mind. She didn’t belong to me. This wasn’t a game of finders, keepers.

“Good morning,” Chase said.

“Morning,” I said.

“Seen Kai?” he asked.

“Nope. You?” I asked. It was getting harder and harder not to address the elephant in the room, but that was also none of my business. I wanted it to be my business, but I was trudging shallow waters with Cassie to begin with. I didn’t want to do a single thing that could push her away more than she already was.

“I haven’t. Probably at his cave,” Chase said.

“Wallowing in his anger and self-pity,” I added.

Chase chuckled. “Very true.”

The urge to keep my mouth shut regarding Cassie’s scent that he was bathed in was becoming harder to ignore. The silence between us further added to the need. I couldn’t take it anymore. “What have you two been up to?”
