I knew that because he frowned at me as he started to lower to the ground. The wind around us died. The second his feet were on the floor again, he approached me.
“You do realize you have powers too, right?”
I nodded. “None that I’m willing to use on you. Even in practice. You should already know why.”
He nodded. “Well, I guess I’ll have to show you this way then.”
Before I had the chance to blink, my back was pinned to his chest. His left arm pinned my upper chest to him. His right arm had slid under mine and around the back of my head. I was in his personal brand of a chokehold. And there was no escape.
My breath left my lungs.
Jax brought his lips closer to my ear. His breath poured over my skin in warm waves, creating sensations I had been desperately trying to fight off as he said, “What was that about being slow again?”
Goosebumps prickled along my skin. I sucked in a deep breath and smirked, even though he couldn’t see it. I then slipped my fingers between his arm and my chest and pressed on the pressure point as I stomped on his foot.
Both actions caused him to release me. I rolled away from him, ending upright on my feet, and pivoted to face him in my ready stance.
“Clever,” he said. “I’m impressed.”
My stomach growled embarrassingly loud.
“And you’re hungry.” He ran his fingers through his long dark brown hair. “How about lunch?”
I shrugged. “I could eat.”
He chuckled. “You barely ate breakfast, and your stomach is saying otherwise.”
“How so?” I asked and stepped out of my stance.
“You’re starving. Let’s take care of that.” He started to turn around but stopped halfway. “BLTs sound all right?”
“You had me at B,” I said. “But I really need to shower first.”
“Why?”
“Because we just got done sparring. I’m sweaty, and body odor and bacon don’t necessarily mix well.”
He laughed. “Shower after. Eat first.”
He turned and walked away, leaving little room for argument.
“Fine, but I want to spar more after we eat,” I said.
He laughed as he continued to walk away. “One beating isn’t enough for you?”
I shrugged, even though he couldn’t see it. “You hardly beat me.”
“Sounds like you need another demonstration.” He turned to face me. I stopped, staring at him in confusion.
He used his index finger pointing to the ground, swirling it in a circle.
“What happened to food?” I asked.
He chuckled. “This won’t take long.”
I sighed and turned around, heading back into the training room. Now I had two sensations to contend with. Hunger and arousal.
It was an interesting mix, but I really didn’t mind. This time with Jax was exactly what I needed.
