She laughed. “You’re ridiculous.”
“Still, be careful. I would hate to see you hurt. Even a little bit.”
“I’ll be fine,” she said and lifted up on her toes to place a kiss on my mouth.
If I didn’t have to prepare for the upcoming battle and patrolling, I would take her on the table in the middle of the war room.
She smiled at me like she had heard my thoughts and pulled away while gently biting her lip. “I should go get ready to go.”
“Must you?” I asked.
She giggled as she walked away from me. I sighed as I watched her head toward her room. Once she was out of sight, I went to do a little preparation of my own.

EMILY
A couple of hours later, I was riding on Marcus’s back in his dragon form as we headed toward his friend’s cabin. It wasn’t much longer before we land somewhere near the cabin. At least, I assumed we were near the cabin. I hadn’t been there before, but I knew Marcus would take me as close to the location as possible. Especially with how overprotective he was.
Once I climbed off of him, he shifted back into his human self and we walked together in silence, staying close to one another. The peacefulness of the moment reminded me of times in the past where we were content to enjoy each other’s company. Neither of us wanted to fill the silence between us with idle chatter. It was a wonderful reminder of how amazing things were when we were together.
“So, this is the location?” I asked as a small cabin came into view, nestled between a collection of thin trees that towered high into the air.
Marcus nodded, keeping his eyes trained on the area around us. “I suggest forming the barrier from here.”
We were a solid three hundred feet from the cabin. Marcus’s suggestion was a solid idea. With how thick this forest was, setting up wards and traps too close to the house would give us too little time to react.
I nodded. “Excellent idea.”
“I do tend to have those from time to time,” he said.
I laughed. “Look at you being funny.”
“I was being serious,” he said and grabbed my hand. “Come on, let’s get this started.”
“Okay,” I said.
We walked up to the door. Marcus lifted his fist and pounded on the surface a couple of times. A woman with long blond hair answered. Her bright blue eyes went from me to Marcus, and she smiled.
“Doc, hey!” she said.
She was very perky and warm. Her eyes complimented her long golden hair. Most of all, I felt an instant pull toward her.
“We have news, can we come in?” he asked.
“Sure,” she said and opened the door to allow us through.
Once we stepped in, three men came into the room to greet us.
“Hey Marcus,” one said. He had short brown hair and light hazel eyes. He approached us with his hand out.
“Chase, good to see you,” he said. “This is Emily.”
“Pleasure,” he said.
“Nice to meet you, Chase,” I said.
The next one was a beast of a man with long, light brown hair that shimmered in streaks of gold. His eyes were as dark as mud. His face was coated in a thick beard and his thick muscles rippled through his t-shirt.
