“You’re gonna pay for that,” the skinny blond dude said.
I rolled my eyes and shrugged. “Original. You people really need to broaden your vocabulary. And I might pay for what I’ve done, but you’re hardly going to be the one to collect.”
He pressed his lips together and charged. I jumped into the air and angled myself slightly to the side and brought my knees up to my chest. As he came closer, I pushed my feet out, landing both of them square in his chest. The skinny guy learned what it meant to fly for a few seconds before crashing into the wall next to the door. He fell to the floor in a lump.
I looked at the fat guy who stared at me with a death glare.
“What are you gonna do next?” I asked, standing my ground.
He rolled his eyes and shook his head.
“Yeah, I thought so,” I said.
He got the point, and so did the other two, but there was no way I was going to leave this cabin with them inside it.
“Bitch,” the fat one said.
“Well unless you want a second lesson in how much of a bitch I can be, I suggest you take yourself out the door and pronto.”
He stared at me for a few seconds, seemingly mulling over his options.
“Do I need to count?” I asked.
He shook his head, huffed, and managed to get to his feet before stepping out the door. I nodded to myself and turned around. I grabbed the chick by the collar and pulled her along the floor toward the front door. Once she was out, I got her to the stairs and dropped her. Next was the blond guy, and I was thankful he was already close to the door.
I went back inside long enough to knock on the door that sealed Cassie in.
“Go away!” she shouted.
“It’s me,” I said. “Are you all right?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just terrified. How is everything out there?” she asked through the door. Her voice came through clearer and louder, letting me know that she stood right inside the door.
“Still up in the air,” I said. “Sit tight.”
“How are my men?” she asked.
I smiled. “Handling themselves quite well.”
I honestly wasn’t sure. But if they were anything like mine, they were dealing more damage than they took.
“Be careful,” she said.
“Always,” I said and headed back outside and into the fight.
Part of the forest was on fire. Thankfully, it stayed well contained. The last thing we needed was the forest going up in flames. But the smell of burning flesh and wood had filled the air, carried on a breeze that blew in gusts.
I really hoped the fire wouldn’t spread.
A howl ripped through the air and all the wolves instantly turned their tails and ran.
“Fucking cowards,” I muttered. Though it really didn’t shock me. Bryson had done a banging job of demonstrating his talent for leaving at the most inopportune moment. I wondered if he found Rowan and decided he had suffered enough loss for one lifetime.
Regardless, the wolves retreated into the woods.
Another terrifying roar tore through the air, stilling my heart and my lungs. I searched for Marcus, finding him clutching his side, meeting my gaze. He nodded once and looked in the direction of where the sound came from.
With my heart racing, I rushed toward the spot he indicated.
