She was the only woman I could relax and just be with. There wasn’t going to be another woman like her in this entire world who affected me in the way she did.
She laughed. “Oh no. Whatever would I do in a world without Bret in it?”
I chuckled. “Probably cry. Like, a lot.”
She smacked my arm. “You’re horrible.”
I held up my hands in surrender. “Hey, I’m not the one who killed me with jealousy.”
She laughed even harder before reaching toward the coffee table and picking up the remote.
“What are you doing now?” I asked, staring at the TV as she flipped through channels.
She shook her head and smiled. “Channel surfing. Obviously.”
“I see that, but why?” I asked.
“To find something to watch,” she said.
I nodded and looked around for signs of the master of the castle. “Where is Marcus?”
“Brooding in his room, like normal. Why?” She flicked her gaze toward me for a second before returning to her search.
I let out a sigh, exaggerating my shoulders slumping. “Go figure.”
I stood up from the arm of the couch and took the seat next to her. She smiled and settled in, readjusting her position to face me a little more. The movement was slight, but I noticed. I leaned a little closer.
“So, what are you in the mood for?” I asked and gestured to the screen. “Comedy? Romcom? Thriller?”
“Wide range of options there,” she said. After a few more moments, she added, “I’ll let you know when I find it.”
“Is it a surprise or something?” I asked.
She chuckled. “No. I’m just waiting for something to grab me.”
“How about something scary?”
She stiffened. “Really? Are you new here?”
“Oh, far from it,” I said and flashed her an evil grin.
Emily hated horror films. Ironic when you consider she was living with and had surrounded herself with shifters.
She shook her head, which made me laugh.
“What?” she asked. “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing,” I said and settled my attention on the flashing channels she flipped through.
“Seriously tell me,” she demanded.
I smiled wider. “Nothing. Really, nothing.”
“That didn’t sound like nothing,” she said.
I chuckled.
“Come on, tell me,” she said, coming out with a tinge of begging.
