In all honesty, she should have been afraid. And though her heart did race, it wasn’t from fear. The entire hallway would have reeked of it. She was different.
I could only think of a few possibilities to explain why. Either she understood what she had gotten herself into and knew exactly how to defend herself, or Brock had become soft. Well, there was a third possibility, and that was Brock was toying with her. Either option had an equal probability. Except for Brock becoming soft. Hell would freeze over before that happened. But then again, this woman made me want to be things I never had been before.
Intrigued by her continued to develop in front of me, I decided to stay out of sight, hiding within the shadows for just a few moments longer. At least until I could get an idea of what we were dealing with when it came to the woman. But as I stood and observed her, I realized one vital thing… I wanted her in all the ways. It was hard to think about anything else.
Continuing to stay back, I watched and listened.
“What makes you think anyone is here other than you and me?” Brock asked.
The girl huffed. “I already told you. I sent him here.”
“Right,” Brock said. “But why?”
“He annoyed me,” she said flatly. “Are you satisfied with my answers yet? Can you please take me to him now?”
I leaned a little closer at the bit where she sent someone here. Must have been that human, Collin. He was the only new human that had come around here recently. He was also more trouble than he was worth. Why Silas allowed Brock to toy with him, I couldn’t understand.
But the fact the woman was in my home, searching for him, arguing with Brock about him, that could mean more humans know about our home. If that was the case, that wasn’t going to do us any favors. Not especially when considering the fact that Collin wanted us to go to war for him.
There was something puzzling about this information as well. During my investigation, I didn’t find any information that pointed to a woman that might go looking for him. I normally didn’t make mistakes like that. But it was hard to ignore the evidence staring me in the face. Somehow, I missed this crucial detail.
I shook my head, pressing my lips tightly together. I couldn’t make it make sense.
“I’m sure your boyfriend is just playing hard to get,” Brock said. “Go home and give it a couple of days. I’m sure he will come around.”
“He is not my freaking boyfriend,” she snapped, and then she did something I wouldn’t have expected… she shivered as though the idea of being romantically entwined with Collin was repulsive.
My curiosities grew even more. If she was repulsed by the simple idea of the man, then why did she come all this way looking for him? Why here?
“Then why all this fuss?” Brock asked. “You obviously don’t care for the chap.”
She shrugged. “Not that it’s any of your business, but I’m concerned. Look if all you are going to do is talk circles around me, then get out of my way and let me continue looking for him. I’m only wasting my time with him.”
I hummed through a sigh. The more information I find out, the less sense this visit makes and the more curious I become of the woman. Brock wasn’t doing anything but keeping her riled up. She was seconds away from making a horrible mistake. Or Brock was seconds away from crossing a line.
Regardless, to truly get to the bottom of things, level heads needed to prevail here.
I stepped forward, leaving the shelter of the shadows behind. The second I stepped into the dim light, her head snapped to me, and I gaped at her, startled by her intense blue eyes. My steps stopped.
If I had a heartbeat, that would have stopped too.

CINDY
Blondie was pissing me off, and in a bad way. The way he played stupid only furthered my aggravation. Yelling at him was only working to his amusement. That, in turn, angered me more.
I snapped my attention in the direction of movement from the shadows off to my side. My eyes widened and my lips parted slightly as my sight settled on another impossibly beautiful man moving through the shadows.
Seconds later, he slowly stepped into view.
I gaped, unable to believe my eyes.
There were two of them now. And holy hell the second one was just as beautiful and flawless as the blondie.
Though he was much more exotic in his features, the second one’s eyes stood out just like the first one’s. Like the blonde guy, his were crystal clear. The only difference was in the color. This one’s were green. Maybe that’s how you could tell between a human and a vampire. Their eyes. I had never met another human with eyes quite like theirs. Certainly not as intense.
But this one had short, curly dark hair that was piled on the top of his head. Thick eyebrows hovered over his amazingly clear, green eyes. A thin coating of fuzz covered his face, surrounding wide, thin lips.
