“Uh-huh,” I grumbled out. “Just like earlier, right?”

“That was different,” she said with a little more attitude. She cleared her throat and plastered on her fake smile.

I rolled my eyes and wondered if I went inside, would Tabitha go away? I snorted. Of course not. She would just take it as a challenge. I had no idea what it would take for her to accept things being over between us. I wondered if persistence on my part really was the key.

So far, I wasn’t convinced.

“I don’t want to talk,” I said. The tone of my voice left little room for argument. “I want to be left alone.”

“Fair enough. I’ll say my piece and then I’ll go,” she said as she took the few stairs leading up to the patio.

“Whatever,” I said. “You’re going to do what you want anyway, regardless of what is said to you.”

She smiled as she sauntered closer. “You know me so well.”

“Get what you have to say out of your system and leave,” I said, glaring at her.

Her brown doe eyes twinkled with delight. “Very well. I wanted to say that I can tell that woman isn’t right for you. She will never understand what this life is like for those like us. She could never love you completely.”

She lifted her hand up toward my face as she arrived at my side, attempting to slide her fingers along my cheek. I caught her hand and squeezed firmly at the wrist. A flash of pain flew across her eyes.

“Don’t touch me,” I growled out.

Her eyes flashed again. With wounded pride, she bit her lip and nodded. “Very well.”

I dropped her hand, she leaned against the railing, bending over seductively, attempting to sway me with the slow movement of her hips rocking from side to side. With another frown, I stared at the back of my cabin considering how likely it would be for me to have to move.

Starting over might be something that I needed to do. I hoped not though.

“Look, I understand that you don’t want me. I understand that. But she is still wrong for you. I’m right for you. And you and I mated. Like it or not, we are—”

I rolled my eyes and held up my hand to stop her from continuing. “So help me, Tabitha, if you say we are mates one more time, I’m going to strangle the life out of you.”

She giggled. “Do you promise? You know I like it rough.”

I groaned. “Of course, this is all just a game for you, isn’t it?”

She slid her arms around me, trying to pull me close, but I wiggled free of her and put some distance between us.

“Playing hard to get, I see…” she said through a sigh.

“No,” I snapped. “I told you explicitly we were done. You don’t want to listen!”

My voice boomed with the anger bleeding through my veins. I was seconds from shifting and ripping out her throat. I was starting to despise her that much. I didn’t even bother looking at her. I simply stared in one spot, fists clenched at my sides, and screamed.

“Leave me alone!” I shouted.

“I love this game we are playing. Do you think the sex will be even better now?” she asked.

I growled.

Everything I was doing was only egging her on. Turn her down? It was a big, fat turn-on for her. Who would have ever thought that? I sure as hell didn’t have the first clue until now.

“Fine. If you won’t leave, then I will,” I said and took off into the woods, shedding my clothing and shifting into my wolf.

I was much faster in my wolf form. Even faster than her mountain lion. Though she would probably track by the scent I left in my wake, I didn’t care. I would figure out a way to shake her off my ass if she left me with no other choice. But after a while, I hadn’t caught a whiff of her. She must have gotten the point.

Would the wonders ever cease?
