“You’re not allowed to have babies with other women! You’re supposed to have a baby with me!” she cried out and struggled against me.
Once we got to the end of my driveway, I released her arm, launching her to the middle of the street. “We’ve been through this time and time again. I am not your mate. I don’t love you. I have wanted nothing to do with you for months.”
“Lies!” Tabitha shouted. “That woman is trouble and up to no good. I promise you. I’m the one you’re meant to be with. I’m the mate. Not her!”
“No,” I snapped. “You are not.”
“Yes, I am! And the sooner you accept the fact, the better,” Tabitha said, squaring her shoulders and staring me down. “That baby can’t be yours! She’s just tricking you! Why can’t you see that? Please listen to me.”
I pinched the bridge of my nose and let out a hot breath through my nose. “You need help, Tabitha. Psychiatric help. I have never loved you. I have never said those words to you or anyone else except for her. She’s the only one who will hear them besides my children. She is my mate. Not you. Accept it. Get over it. End of story. Move the fuck on.”
I started to walk back down my driveway before I turned around and added, “And stay off my property or I will call the authorities.”
“Wrong!” She started pacing the width of my driveway. “Wrong, wrong, wrong!”
I shook my head and sighed. She was going to force my hand this time. I was going to have to kill her or have her committed in order for her to leave us alone.
“If you won’t come to your senses! I will make you see the truth!” she shouted.
She turned around and set her eyes on Gemma who I realized hadn’t gone inside yet. She was watching the interaction between me and Tabitha with fear in her eyes, holding on to her baby bump.
Out of the corner of my eye, Tabitha shifted and launched at Gemma.
Gemma screamed.
My wolf reacted, forcing the shift, and I jumped into the way in order to protect Gemma and the baby. I managed to land on my feet just in time for Gemma to step inside and block Tabitha’s collision with her.
Tabitha roared and swiped at my face with sharp claws and tried desperately to get around me and into my house. A stinging sensation filled my face. Blood entered my eye, blinding me. Rage boiled through my veins, along with a desperate need to protect what was mine. My family. My pack.
Tabitha was out to kill Gemma and my baby just to get me to come crawling back to her. Well, if anyone was going to die, it wasn’t going to be Gemma. And if I had a say in it, I wasn’t going to die either. Though I would, if I needed to.
I tackled Tabitha and then quickly climbed to my feet to grab her tail in my snout before she could try launching for the front of the cabin again.
Tabitha roared and slashed at me with her claws. She missed, of course. I kept tugging on her. She struggled against me as I dragged her farther from the cabin. Once I thought we were far enough, I released her tail and faced her head-on. She hissed at me and growled while slowly turning her head toward the cabin. I launched myself between her and my cabin.
She hunched her back and lowered her head. Her ears were pressed against her skull. Her eyes glistened in the light of the evening sun.
I growled in warning. One way or another, she was going to get the point that I wasn’t going to allow her to harm my baby or my mate.
She corrected her posture.
Now we were getting somewhere. Just when I thought she was going to take the hint and back down, she slashed at me. It appeared she was willing to go through me in order to get to Gemma.
Fine. She made her choice. Come what may.
I dug my claws into the gravel, bracing for a bloody battle. Though I didn’t much care for Tabitha. I understood she didn’t need to die. But I would kill her if she forced my hand, regardless. I was doing what I thought was best. Protecting my family.
Tabitha launched herself at me.
Seconds before she hit me, I reared up on my hind legs, prepared to sink my teeth into her neck.

GEMMA
I had no idea when I was going to get used to the whole shifter thing. But it was part of my life now, and I loved Weylan more than I thought I could ever love anyone. All of his parts. Even the wolf. Besides, there was something magnificent about his wolf. He was beautiful and regal and magestic.
He showed me his wolf after answering most of my questions regarding shifting. He was massive. Much larger than regular wolves. His fur was mostly white with bits of grey and black mixed in. His paws were tipped with razor-sharp claws. And his eyes? They were the most beautiful part of him and were almost the exact same as his eyes in human form. The only difference? He had bright yellow and green starbursts stretching out from the center of his pupils that blended in with the light brown.
