I gaped at her.
“What the hell is so funny?” I asked.
“You’re delirious. Come back to bed. If you still want me to leave in the morning, then I will leave,” she said, setting her brown doe eyes on me. “But I know you won’t. So, let’s put this all behind us and chalk it up as a brief lapse in judgment.”
“You are the lapse in judgment,” I growled out.
“That is why you keep letting me back into your bed, right?” she said, calling me out. “I’m not going anywhere except back to sleep.”
I quirked an eyebrow. I was all the firmer in my decision to end this once and for all. “Let me put it to you this way… leave or I’ll make you.”
“No,” she said. “It’s the middle of the night. What has gotten into you?”
“I don’t care what time it is,” I said. “This is my house, and I want you to leave.”
I burned through the last of my patience and grabbed her by the arm and pulled her from the bed. She leaped through the air and landed lithely on her feet, staring at me like I had grown a second head. I collected her clothes and tossed them at her before pointing toward the front door.
“Are you serious, right now?” she asked, voice turning shrill.
“Bye,” I said, still pointing at the door.
The seriousness of the situation must have dawned on her. Her eyes took on a glossy sheen and her lips curved downward at the corners. In a softer voice, she said, “I don’t understand. What happened?”
“Nothing except me finally wising up. I should have done this a long time ago,” I said. “You’re no good for me. We’re done. For good.”
“What has gotten into you?” she asked. “Is there another woman?”
I scoffed. “Not that who I am seeing is any of your business, but no. I’m just done stringing you along. I’m done with you. I’ve had all I can take. Take your pick of any excuse that you want. Believe what you want, so long as it keeps you out of my life.”
She sniffed as she dressed. But I could see right through her. She hadn’t shed a single damn tear. I recognized her manipulation and was intolerant to it. She could cry all she wanted to. I wasn’t changing my mind.
“You’re going to regret this in the morning.”
“I doubt that very much,” I said.
She chuckled under her breath. “I don’t.”
“Whatever. Just leave,” I said.
“Fine,” she said and finished dressing, and I followed her to the front door. “I’ll give you a couple of days to cool off and clear your head. But I guarantee that when I come back, you’ll let me in. Just like all the other times. You’re not done with me. Not yet.”
“I only kept you around for the sex. You were a distraction and nothing more. I’ve grown bored of you, and you no longer satisfy me,” I said, wishing she would take the hint.
She laughed again. “That is not how I remember things going earlier. From my experience, I was exceptionally satisfying to you. At least you weren’t complaining when your dick was in my mouth.”
I opened the door and gestured for her to step outside. Once both of her feet were firmly planted on my front porch, I said, “Have a better life without me.”
“You are so going to regret this,” she said. “I deserve better than this.”
“You’re right, you do,” I said and shut the door in her face and then locked the handle and deadbolt.
“I’m pregnant, Weylan,” she said through the wood. “For real this time. You can’t get rid of me.”
I snorted. “No, you’re not. We’ve been down this road before. Your lies are not going to work this time.”
“I mean it,” she said.
“Get yourself some help,” I said. “You need it.”
