North opens the door to leave as the nurse enters. “I warned you not to upset her. I want you to leave now.”

North looks at her with eyes like daggers. Then, he spins and leaves the room.

Loud voices, yelling, and the word bastard is being screamed from both men. Then, I hear more male voices, scuffling, and then quiet. Security must have been called to remove them both.

I lie back on the pillow, tears threatening the corners of my eyes, when the door opens slowly, and Kara appears.

Finally, someone who is normal.

“Hey, don’t upset yourself, East,” she says softly, taking the chair next to me.

“Are they killing each other?”

“There is far too much testosterone in this building right now, and they need to take it outside and sort it out. They won’t kill each other. They are both just a bit upset and worried. They’ll calm down soon, and if they don’t, then I’ll punch them both in their dicks.” She smiles, and this makes me laugh.

Kara is so good for North. She’s good for all of us. I’m so glad she came with him, but they need to calm down soon or she will follow through on her promise and having all three of them in jail in Vegas, would not be ideal for me right now.

“Are you going to tell me what happened, and all of it? I gather I’ve missed out on being a bridesmaid.” She laughs.

I roll my eyes and tell her the whole sordid tale.

“So, just between the two of us have you… you know… consummated the marriage, so to speak?” she whispers, even though there are only the two of us in the room.

I blush. I’m not used to talking about having sex with anyone, never mind my soon-to-be sister-in-law.

“Oh!” is all she says.

“Please, Kara, don’t tell North or anyone. They will kill him. It was totally consensual, and the first time, it was me that instigated it.”

“So, you’ve done it more than once.”

I blush again.

“Oh, East, this is priceless. I promise not to tell anyone. It’s no one’s business but yours, but if North does find out, I didn’t know, okay?” I nod. I can’t even look at her, I’m so embarrassed.

“They said I could come in for a few minutes just to make sure you were okay. I’ll be back soon.”

“Kara?”

“Yeah?”

“What do you know about Chelsea?”

“What do you mean?”

“I think Chelsea, who lives below me in New York, is on the payroll and has been paid to be my friend. To be their spy.”

“You can’t really seriously think that?”

“Yeah, I do. North was acting really weird, and he asked where Chelsea was when we got married. He shouldn’t have even known she was here with me.”

“I can’t imagine North going along with anything like that, but I promise you now, I will fucking castrate him if it’s true.”

“I didn’t ask you to cause trouble between you and North, Kara. I just want to know for my own mind. Please don’t fall out with North. This is not a problem for you two. This is a problem for me and my neanderthal brothers. No wonder I married the first fucking man I come across.”

A small smile escapes as Kara tries to smile back. Her anger is clear.

God help North.
