The stranger takes out his phone. I don’t think he speaks English, but he understands what I’m trying to say.
I look into the huge crowd that has gathered. I don’t know who I’m looking for. Just anyone who will believe me and help me to get away from him. I don’t see anyone. I only see accusing eyes.
Matias is shouting and telling everyone I hijacked his cab at the airport and then stole his phone.
A few people in the crowd are shaking their heads. Others are just watching the show. I just hope the police arrive soon.
My heart stops when a strong hand grabs the top of my left arm. “Come with me, now,” he says as he pulls me away from the scene. I try to look at his face, but he’s wearing a Mexican fighting mask.
“No!” I start to fight back, but it’s no use. Two more men appear and drag me backward through the crowd. No one helps. They all just stare.
“Get the fuck off me. My brothers are going to fucking kill you. Do you hear me? You’re all dead!” I scream in sheer fear. I struggle, but it’s pointless. These guys are huge.
I hear the sliding of a metal door, my feet are lifted off the floor, and I’m lifted into the van.
It’s dark but not dark enough that I can’t see. There are three huge guys dressed totally in black all wearing those Mexican wrestling masks.
“You’re so fucking dead. Do you know that? You are all going to die.”
Chapter 22
Zed
Thefourofusboard the jet. My head is spinning. I’ve been in contact with my team in Mexico. They’ve spread out and are looking for her as we speak. She should be landing anytime now, so we have a good chance of catching up with her before it’s too late. I’ve sent her some warning texts, but North said she probably won’t even look at her phone until she’s at the villa. She’s so stubborn.
She’s got to make it to the villa first.
It’s not long before we are in the air.
“So, you have nowhere to run now, Margarite. I want the truth and all of it or I will throw you off this fucking plane.”
“He will,” North chips in.
“Can I have a drink first? I don’t like flying.”
“When you have told me everything.”
“Where do you want me to start?”
“Jesus, woman, the fucking beginning. I want everything. You are seriously pissing me off.”
“Okay! God, you are so angry all the time. I think it has to do with your childhood.”
“Argh, stop with the mind games. Who the hell are you, how do you know so much about us, and how did you know East was in trouble?”
“I think you might need a drink for this. I’ll have one, too.” She smirks.
“Fucking hell.” I huff. “Kara, can you sort us some drinks, please?” Kara rolls her eyes but heads off into the galley.
“Spill it. Now. My patience is literally paper-thin now.”
“The most important part is East; I have been following the whole story since before Sutton and Kara were abducted. I didn’t know that you were involved in the rescue until I saw you at the manor house after the auction.”
“You were there?”
“Yes, but not as a patron. I was pretending to be a cleaner.”
“Who the fuck are you? Why were you there?”
