“Hmm, will you go back to your mum’s?”
“Yeah, don’t worry. I’ll be fine. Go and pack some stuff, and I’ll make you some breakfast.”
I know I didn’t want a girlfriend because they are all clingy and shit, but for her to be so laid back and “oh, just go, Zed; I don’t care what you do” about it pissed me off a bit.
Jesus, man, make up your mind. What in the hell do you want from her?
I pull out my holdall which is still packed from Mexico. It’ll have to do. I’ll buy some new clothes if I need to, but I am only staying for as long as it takes to get my blood drawn. Then, I’m out of there.
As I head out into the kitchen, my phone rings with an unknown number. I hesitate to answer, but I eventually hit the answer button.
“Hello?”
“Zed, it’s Doctor Mathers.”
I’d totally forgotten about the doctor’s office calling today with East’s lab results. It’s one drama after another.
“Oh, right, yes?”
“Are you with East now?”
“Yes, hang on. I’ll put you on speaker phone.”
I click the call over so that we can both now hear what he has to say.
“So, it’s as I suspected. You have a vitamin B12 deficiency. I have some medication I would like you to take for three months, and then we will do your blood tests again. If there is an improvement, then you can stay on it for another six months. If not, then we are looking at a series of injections to give you a boost.”
“Okay, that doesn’t sound too bad,” she says.
“Hmm, well you are very lucky. Your B12 is extremely low. I need you to start taking in more iron in your diet, and you need to drink a lot more fluids. As in water.”
“Okay, that’s fine. I can do that. I’ll pop by later and pick up the prescription.” I watch her as she rolls her eyes.
“No need. It’ll be delivered in the next thirty minutes. I’ll book an appointment for three months’ time, but if you feel unwell, you must call me straight away, okay?”
“Yes.”
Before she gets to say bye, I cut the call.
“When I get back, we are talking about your diet. No arguments.” I kiss her gently and pull her in tight.
I feel the pull between us and step back. “Right, gotta go. See you in a few days.” I stride quickly to the elevator, and just as the doors start to close, I yell, “Text me!” I have never in my entire life said that to a woman. A smile breaks on my lips as the elevator starts to descend.
Chapter 35
East
“Textme!”heshoutsas the doors close. Well, I wasn’t expecting that. I realise I’m grinning like a schoolgirl who just got a wink from her crush.
I look around, and the suite feels too big. Too quiet. So, I pack up and head over to my mum’s.
“What are you doing here? I thought you’d be in bed all day!” Kara says a bit too loudly.
“Stop talking to my sister about bed and shit. I don’t want to fucking hear it.” North groans.
I can’t help but laugh. He’s a walking rampant rabbit, yet the mention of me being anywhere near sex sends him green.
“Drake’s had some sort of accident, and Zed has had to go back out to Vegas to donate some blood. It’s pretty serious, I think.”
