Porter looked ready to drop too and Jaygen found himself pulling the human close to him. “Make sure you wash all blood and dirt off in the shower and make sure you pick up after yourself.”
Porter huffed. “Really? Right now?”
Yes, because if Jaygen didn’t seize control, he might just be consumed by the chaos that boiled just under the surface.
“Wow you really are bossy,” Amy joked, but her brown eyes were void of any true humor. She looked just as lost as her brother. She turned away from them and headed toward Porter’s room and quickly reappeared with clothes in hand and found the bathroom.
“Everyone shower,” Jaygen said.
Foi growled. “Can’t I just sleep?” He was standing up on his own but the pink flesh on his side still looked raw. He’d need plenty of meat to help him recover faster.
“I’ll help you. Come on, Oz. I need you to hold him up,” Cyrus said.
“I’m a grown ass man,” Foi grumbled, but he was already heavily leaning on Ozni.
Jaygen made eye contact once again with Arden and gave a slight nod to the dragon.
Porter’s shoulders dropped and he allowed Jaygen to lead him to the bathrooms. He was on autopilot as he took Spooky from the human’s arms.
“Wait Jaygen. He helped us today.”
Jaygen rapidly blinked before staring down at the small furball. All he got was a small meow in return.
“He’s a familiar,” Arden supplied. “He no doubt ran out of magic without a witch to bind to.”
The tiger blinked before realization dawned on him. “So this little pest shredded my things on purpose,” Jaygen growled. He brought Spooky close to his face glaring at the cat. A rough tongue grazed his nose and he jerked back. “That is disgusting.”
Porter was covering his mouth and Jaygen was almost tempted to try and make him laugh. Especially after the past forty-eight hours they’d had.
“Do you think he likes you because you’re a cat too?” Porter asked.
Jaygen glared. “Don’t push it, Pretty.” He glanced at Arden looking for help. “Can you take him to Porter’s room?”
Arden shook his head. “Amy is in Porter’s room.”
“Spooky can sleep with us,” Porter said.
“No, he can not,” Jaygen said. He passed the familiar to Arden, who surprisingly looked comfortable with holding him.
“He can take my room,” Cyrus said. A fresh white towel around his slender hips.
Jaygen nodded, knowing they’d all be in his room for sleep. He would normally require being alone to fully get himself under control, but there was something about being surrounded by these men that grounded him on a different level.
For tonight, he needed each and every one of them surrounding him. Or he might fall apart.
Porter wokeup crammed between and underneath his men. Cyrus was stretched over both him and Foi while Ozni was underneath Porter, one hand slung across Porter's chest and the other holding a book as he read. Unlike everyone else, the daywalker was wide awake, but Porter refrained from interrupting him as he seemed so engrossed in what he was reading. Jaygen was the only one on Porter's left side, but the tiger had been too clingy to do anything but hold onto him all night. He glanced around at all of them, a smile growing on his face.
How did he get so lucky?
Last night came rushing back to him and he thought about his father. The man he'd tried to get approval from his entire life was dead. It was still hard to come to grips with that. Just like that their story was done and there was no way to change the past. He’d dreamt about that magical moment when his father would accept him, apologize for being a monster, and they would repair their relationship. But that was all a fairytale. He knew eventually the full weight of it all would sink in, but right now he was still numb.
A buzzing sound made Porter glance around for his phone. He dug it out from underneath Foi and the man growled in his sleep as he tried to nestle closer to Porter. Smiling, Porter leaned over a bit and kissed his cheek before he checked his phone.
Amy: Hey you up?
Porter: Yeah just laying here.
Amy: Do you think we can talk? I can make you a cup of tea.
