Jaygen had half a mind to tell them both no, but if it helped them to come up with some prize system, then so be it. Cyrus grinned like the cat that ate the canary.
"The one with the most takedowns gets Porter to himself all night long uninterrupted," Cyrus said, sounding entirely too proud of himself.
"That is rid—"
"I'm in," Foi said. His gold-flecked eyes glanced over at Jaygen in a clear challenge.
"I can have Porter whenever,” Jaygen started. “This is hardly a—"
"Chicken," Foi teased.
It shouldn't have bothered Jaygen, but it was useless; his tiger wanted to pin the wolf under them and make him submit. How dare he refer to Jaygen as a prey animal, and he was anything but!
"I would like to sketch him in a few poses," Ozni said.
Jaygen looked at their usually quiet daywalker in disbelief. Ever since Porter came around, Ozni was talking more and more, and the loner of a man was slowly coming out of his shell.
"Fine. Our goal is to kill two people only, but it goes without saying, if they come after you, show no mercy," Jaygen said.
They each nodded at him, and Jaygen's shoulder dropped slightly as he contended that they'd protect themselves. Killing a mass amount of humans was the last thing any of them needed to do, even if the humans could be the vilest creatures on the planet, the media would spin it in a different direction.
Their main objective was to save Porter's sister Amy. Ozni, and Cyrus would take care of her and Foi and Jaygen would kill Gabriel Manetti and his right hand Michele. Foi and Jaygen had agreed they both wanted to rip them apart, but it would also be best if Ozni didn't lose himself to the blood lust.
"Let's do this," Foi said, his face going serious.
Jaygen nodded, surprised to see the look on Foi’s face. This was why he cared for the wolf. He wasn’t just a goofball looking for trouble. No, he was so much more than that when he wanted to be. They left their hiding area and headed toward the Manetti mansion. Ozni picked Cyrus up the moment they got halfway there. "We will be going in on the south side," Ozni said.
It was the closest to Amy's room. Jaygen noded. "Stay safe, both of you."
And watch over each other.
"Don't worry Jaygen," Cyrus smiled at him, but Jaygen still couldn't quite get rid of the anxious feeling swirling in the pit of his stomach. However, they had a plan. And it was a damn good one.
Ozni and Cyrus were gone, and Jaygen knew he couldn't question the plan itself anymore; it was happening and he just needed to move forward with it. He and Foi headed toward the mansion and made it to the wall before they scaled it.
Jaygen landed in a crouch as he glanced over the manicured lawn. In the supernatural city, they were overpopulated, forced to live on top of each other to make humans feel safer. There were a handful of parks, but shifter packs had grabbed that up quickly, making it damn near impossible to use without one of their permissions. It made it hard for those who didn't belong to a particular pride, pack, or group of shifters.
Jaygen shook his head. He wasn't on some robin hood, vigilante mission. He was there to make sure the human, who'd captured his ice-cold heart and thawed it out, stayed safe from the man who threatened to snuff out Porter's light.
Jaygen ran toward the mansion, keeping to the shadows the best he could. A black blur went right past him. Foi had shifted the moment they cleared the wall, and he went for the first guard that turned the corner. The man didn't so much as get a shout of fear out. Foi's razor-sharp teeth tore his throat out, and he dropped to the ground with a look of pure shock on his face.
The second guard was a little more prepared, but Jaygen was right there. He moved behind the man just as he fumbled to get his gun out. Jaygen growled, his only warning before he grabbed the guard in a hold, one arm around his chest and a hand firmly on his chin. With every ounce of strength he possessed, Jaygen twisted the man's head in the opposite direction he pulled his body. A sickening crack fluttered up to Jaygen's ears, and his tiger roared in their kill. He knew that killing all the humans was not their objective, but he would not let one walk out of there who'd had pure intent on killing them.
The guard's body dropped to the ground, and Jaygen looked at Foi. The wolf's snout was wet with blood, but his black fur hid any evidence.
"Even in this you're messy," Jaygen said.
Foi huffed at him before grabbing the pants leg of the guard and dragging him out of the way. Jaygen followed suit; they'd have to get rid of the bodies later, making sure to erase all evidence of them being there.
Jaygen crept around the house, keeping all senses on alert for any sound or smell that stuck out to him. His tiger was ready to pounce on their kill but just like during a hunt, Jaygen could be patient. It would make the kill that much sweeter.
Foi was hot on his heels as they made their way to the open deck in the back. Two guards spoke, laughing it up, cigarettes in hand. The stench of tobacco burned Jaygen's throat, and he batted down the growl of displeasure that threatened to leave him.
He caught Foi's eyes and gestured for him to get the one of the left. The wolf was huge. His head stopped right at Jaygen's chest, and he could easily take down both guards, but being so big meant they were larger targets, and it was common sense that the mafia would be armed to the teeth with guns and knives, maybe even explosives.
Jaygen gave a curt nod as he ran at one of the guards. The guard let out a shout, but that was the last sound he made. Jaygen's fist kissed his right temple and he went down harder than a sack of potatoes. One not dead was a start.
But even as Jaygen walked over the out-of-it human, his tiger growled for him to finish the job. He took the weapons off the man. He wouldn't be using them anytime soon. They wouldn't be safe otherwise; pushing the insistent feeling back, Jaygen continued forward. He was in control at all times.
