The evening spent with Brenda had been a dream-come-true, a few hours in Paradise. If it were up to him, he would ask her to move in with him, and consider serious commitment.
The need for secrecy frustrated him, but he would make the best of it.A secret romance. As if they were teenagers again. It might add spice to their get-togethers.
At ten thirty, his phone rang.
“I hope I’m not disturbing you.” Her low voice indicated she didn’t want to be heard.
He suppressed a sigh of relief. Brenda was in her room and eager to chat. “I was waiting for your call. All went well?”
“Yes, I picked up Mia. She had a good time and spent an hour detailing her activities while we shared a late dinner.”
“It’s great that she confides in you.”
“Thank God. At least I know she’s happy and safe, and enjoying her time with the U.C. groups.”
And he was happy to hear that Brenda was relaxed. “Is she going to her party next Saturday?”
“Yes. I’ll drop her at five and pick her up at ten.”
“Let me save you some driving. How about me picking you up from U.C. at five after five, and bringing you back at ten before ten?”
She chuckled. “And in between?”
“I’ll order food, and we’ll have dinner on my balcony. Royce spends the weekend working in the computer lab with his advisor.”
“That’d be lovely, Matt. I’m looking forward to our dinner.”
“Brenda, did you…” He hesitated and inhaled. “Did you have a good time this evening?”
“A wonderful time, Matt. Fantastic.”
He lowered his voice to a whisper, needing reassurance too, after the disdain he’d endured from his ex during their lasts months together. “As good as you expected?”
“Much better. Can’t wait to see you again.”
“Me, too, babe. Where can I pick you up on Saturday?”
She explained the exact spot where she would be waiting for him.
“Have sweet dreams. I’ll be thinking of you.”
And fantasizing about you.
He sent her a kiss over the line.
