She held out her hand and I took it, surprised to see genuine affection in her eyes directed toward me. “It’s so nice to meet you, Hayden. Mason told me all about you, and I’ve been pestering him to invite you and Logan over for dinner.”

My smile widened then, losing some of the reservedness I usually had for strangers. There was just something about Olivia that made me want to put my guard down. Or perhaps because, like Logan, she looked familiar to me.

I could have sworn I met her before, but I couldn’t remember when or where.

“Thank you. That’s very nice of you.” I didn’t tell her that Logan had never mentioned any dinner.

Mason caught on though, because he laughed. “I bet Logan never told you. The bastard probably wants to keep you to himself.”

I bit my lips and smiled, looking back at Logan, who’d only shrugged, his eyes gleaming with that usual heat.

I turned back around, and Gage was there. His smile was more friendly than the last time I saw him, though just as reserved. I was still wary of him, but not wanting to come off as rude, I offered him a friendly greeting. He felt stiff when he gave me a perfunctory kiss on the cheek. “Hayden, it’s nice to see you again.”

“Likewise.”

Perhaps he was only trying to look out for his friend, but I got the feeling that Gage didn’t like me much. Well, the feeling was definitely mutual.

Logan came over then, drinks in hand. He passed them around. Scotch for the men, the juice for me and milk for Olivia.

It made sense now. She must be in her third trimester, and she was gulping the milk like it was the most delicious thing in the entire world. Everyone was quiet as we watched her, and when she noticed, her cheeks turned an adorable shade of red. “Sorry. For some strange reason, the baby really craves milk.”

Mason laughed and hook his arms around her shoulder. “Don’t apologize, Livie. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about.” He then placed a brief kiss on her temple, and I had to look away at the intimacy between them.

Mason turned to the group then, smiling a little bit. “So are you ready to get your ass kicked, Logan?”

I looked at Logan. When he caught my confusion, he smiled. “It’s poker night.”

“Poker night?”

“Yeah. I’d completely forgotten, or I would have called and cancelled.”

Mason gasped playfully, and I couldn’t help but smile over the sound. “You would have cancelled on us? Your best friends?”

Logan grumbled under his breath, so low, I didn’t catch what he said, but I knew he was disappointed about our interruption. I was, too. We could have been naked and in bed by now. Just the thought brought on a bout of shivers through me.

Gage and Mason started talking about something, but I was no longer paying attention. And when Logan tugged me away from the trio, I willingly followed. There wasn’t anywhere he could lead me that I wouldn’t follow.

“I could kick them out,” he said, a world of a promise in those hazel eyes of his.

What a tempting idea. I shook my head instead. “They’re already here. You might as well start your poker game.”

His smile. “Don’t worry. It won’t run as long as it usually does, considering Mason brought Olivia. She’ll want to go home early.”

I smiled and pulled him in close. “And then, you’ll be all mine, Mr. Cross.”

My desire was clear in my voice. My stomach clenched just from the thought of finally being with him again. Who knew I would turn into such a nymphomaniac? I couldn’t go an hour into my day without thinking about sex with Logan.

We shared a knowing smile, and Mason groaned. “Logan, stop making eyes at Hayden and set up the poker game.”

Logan directed a playful scowl Mason’s way and the big man smiled. I couldn’t help but giggle. Mason was a charming man. I could see why he got into corporate law. I bet those fancy rich clients of his turned putty in his hands all the time. Logan kissed the corner of my lips and walked away, Mason and Gage following close behind. One winked at me, while the other ignored me, but I didn’t care. Then it was just me and Olivia left in the room.

“Do you want to sit down?” I pointed to the couch. I had never been pregnant before, but I couldn’t imagine it would be comfortable standing for so long.

She nodded eagerly and we made our way over to the couch.

“So, Mason tells me you’re a student?” she asked, once we got comfortable.

“Yeah, I graduate in May.”
