He wiped away my tears with his thumb, and then he leaned forward and kissed me.

He kissed me like he had our very first kiss. With the urgency of a desperate man, and I kissed him back with equal passion, never wanting to let him go.

“Don’t ever leave again,” he whispered demandingly against my lips.

“I won’t ever leave again,” I whispered back, mimicking his tone of voice. “I won’t ever leave again, I promise.”

We both fell to the floor at the same time, and Logan rearranged us so I was on his lap, and he continued to kiss me.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him in close, trying to eliminate even the most minuscule amount of space between his hard body and my much softer one, and still, that wasn’t enough.

I wanted to crawl inside of him.

“Logan,” I moaned.

“I got you. I got you,” he repeated over and over again.

And I believed him.

He got me.

He really got me.

Later,we moved to the bed and crawled under the covers, leaving the lights off. Logan touched and caressed every spot of skin he could get to, and that wasn’t much, considering I was still fully clothed.

We didn’t have sex, though I knew he wanted to, if the hard erection he had pressed against me were any indication. And hell, I wanted to, too.

But I didn’t want to have our reunion at someone’s else house.

That just felt too weird for me.

Plus—and call me sappy—I wanted it to be special.

I didn’t think I had ever spent this long without sex with Logan since our first time, and a part of me was afraid I couldn’t make it good for him again.

So all we did was kiss and lay in each other arms.

“Do you want to see your dad again?” Logan asked suddenly. It was too dark in the room for me to see him properly, so I didn’t know what he was thinking.

I hesitated.

“He really wants me in his life?” I asked, and I hated how much I sounded like a little lost girl, yearning for something she could never have.

“He loves you, Hayden. He’s spent the last fifteen years looking for you. Did you know you left on his birthday?”

I moved up on my elbow a little, surprised. “Really?”

“Yeah. He hasn’t been able to celebrate his birthday since.”

“I didn’t know that,” I said softly.

“Baby, I’m not telling you this to make you feel bad. I’m telling you this so you don’t question your importance in his life. He might not know you as an adult, but he knew you as a child. He fell in love with you as a baby. And he never stopped.”

“Really?”

“Really. I bet there wasn’t a day that’s gone by when he didn’t think about you. But you meet him again when you’re ready, okay? I just want you to feel secure in the fact that he will wait for you.”

I nodded, even though he couldn’t see me, and laid back down, resting my head on Logan’s bare chest and running my fingers through the few chest hair he had there.

“I’ll think about it,” I said softly.

“Of course.” And then he ran his fingers through my hair, luring me into sleep.
