Logan

I pulledmy car into the driveway of a two-story house and got out.

If anyone had ever told me ten years ago that Mason Kade, the man I went to undergrad with, the infamous man-slut of UChicago, would be the proud owner of a suburban home, I would have laughed in their face.

Back then, I was so sure we would remain forever bachelors, fucking our way through half of Chicago just because. Then the fucker moved to New York and left me behind.

Mason moved back to Chicago about five years ago, and he met Olivia again and the rest was history. Olivia had been his brother’s ward for a portion of her senior year of high school, just after her mom abandoned her to move to New York.

I knew Mason was tormented about his attraction to Olivia in the beginning, but everything worked out eventually, and now his wife was heavily pregnant, and Mason was quietly freaking out about the upcoming birth of his daughter.

I shook my head and laughed a little as I made my way up to the front porch.

Mason was a six-foot-four giant, as wide as he was tall. The fact that he had turned into a mother hen these past couple of weeks had been an amusement for everyone at the office.

I rang the doorbell, and it wasn’t long before the door opened, revealing Olivia’s smiling face to me. “Logan! I didn’t know you were coming today.”

She moved forward and tried to give me a hug, but her protruding belly got in the way and she laughed. Instead, she held out her hands to me. I grabbed them with both of mine and shot a wink her way. I liked that she still blushed something fierce.

Olivia didn’t blush prettily like most women—not with her pale skin turning a tomato-red that reminded me a lot of a kid. And the way she avoided eye contact afterward, hiding her big brown eyes while she fiddled with her fingers was endearing to me.

Olivia was an endearing woman.

Not sexy, per se, but definitely cute in a way that made you want to protect her from everything bad in this world. I supposed that was why Mason was so protective of her, and I liked that even after years of being together that never changed.

It was good to know that her being with someone like Mason didn’t change her, either. I liked the way she was too much, and though I didn’t think they would make it in the beginning, I was happy to see they had proven me wrong since.

I gave her a side hug and a chaste kiss on her forehead, keeping her small frame close to me as we walked to the kitchen.

“How are you feeling, sweetheart?”

“Very pregnant,” she answered, patting her belly. “I can’t wait for her to come out and meet everyone. I miss being able to see my feet.”

She pouted a little at that, and I laughed.

“Get your filthy hands off my wife,” a deep voice called out from the family room.

I chuckled and tightened my arms around Olivia, looking over her head to see Mason standing there, his arms crossed over his large chest.

Olivia tapped my stomach. “Behave,” she admonished, before pulling away from me and walking over to her husband. I watched, with some amusement, the way he practically melted from the sight of her.

Shaking my head, I made my way to the couple, holding out the documents I brought from work with me. We were working on a big case—it looked like Gage might be getting his revenge after all.

“Thanks, man,” Mason said, taking the documents from my hand.

“Does that mean you’ll invite me in for coffee?”

“You’re already in my house,” he responded. “And the next time I see you touching my wife, you’ll be leaving here with a few bruises on that pretty face of yours.”

I scoffed. “Please, Gage is the pretty one. Me, I’m too manly looking for that. Right, Olivia?”

“Of course,” she answered dutifully, but I could see the glimmer of amusement in her dark eyes. “You’ve always been the manliest of the group.”

“Hey, Livie, you’re not supposed to be noticing any other men.”

She pinched his side and moved away with a small giggle when he made a move to get her back. “Just because I’m married to you doesn’t mean I automatically turn a blind eye to every man out there. I can notice when a man is good-looking. But don’t worry, they don’t ever hold a candle to you.”

She playfully blew him a kiss, and Mason pretended to catch it. I made a gagging noise, earning me a hard glare from Mason and a blush from Olivia.
