“Challenge accepted.”
That prompted me to roll my eyes. He laughed. Logan helped me put on my coat, then he zipped it up all the way up before wrapping a scarf—his scarf—around my neck. “Perfect.”
* * *
Logan drove to the event.I loved watching him control his powerful car in that tux. I wasn’t a stranger to masturbation, and I was going to use this image of him later to get off. The thought made my cheeks heat, mostly because I was glad he couldn’t tell what I was thinking, but also because I remembered him going off on Kenny when he said something similar to me this morning.
Did that make me as creepy as Kenny?
God, I hoped not.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked, just as he shifted gears.
“Nothing,” I answered way too quickly. I cleared my throat and tried again. “Nothing.”
He shot me a bemused smile. “Really?”
“Yeah. Why would I lie?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe because you’re thinking of something dirty?”
Silence met us in the car, and the tension I felt was so palpable that I shifted a little, trying to get rid of my unease. Then Logan laughed, and the tension was gone, but now I was only angry at myself for letting him get to me. I crossed my arms over my chest.
“Ah, babe. I really love where you’re going with this. So tell me, what do you imagine us doing right now, if we weren’t driving to this function.”
“I don’t know,” I said defensively. And really, I didn’t know. Our interaction with each other sexually was pretty limited to kissing, and besides, I was only admiring Logan in that tux.
“Sure you do. Am I naked in this scenario?”
“Of course not!” I answered loudly. “I don’t even know what you look like naked.”
“I don’t know what you look like naked, either, but that’s never stopped me from imagining you that way, squirming underneath me.”
If I thought my blush was bad before, it was nothing compared to how it was now. “That’s… irrelevant.”
“Oh? How so?”
I looked out the window. “I don’t know, but didn’t you scare Kenny this morning for saying something similar to me?”
I was met with silence. Logan was no longer smiling, and I realized, too late, that perhaps, I shouldn’t have said that. Because as much as it embarrassed me to talk about this with him, I liked his playful side more than his serious one.
“You’re right. I’m sorry.”
I turned to him, and when he got to a red light, I pulled his hand away from the stick shift and, similar to what I done this morning, brought it up to my lips to kiss the back of it. “Don’t be. I didn’t mean it like that. Besides, I was doing the exact same thing.”
He smiled then, a half-smile that shone brightly, even in the darkened sky. “I’m glad to hear that.”
He looked into my eyes, and it felt in that moment like we were the only two people around. That was until the light turned green and the car behind us honked impatiently. We drove the rest of the way in companionable silence, and by the time we got there, it felt like we didn’t have enough time. I wanted to stay in the warm heat of the car, to stay in that small space with Logan.
He parked near the entrance and climbed out the car, making his way around to me. I reluctantly placed my hand in his.I wasn’t ready to share him with the world, but it didn’t look like I had a say in the matter.
“It’ll be fine,” Logan assured me, while the valet drove off with his car. The doorman of the extravagant hotel held the door for us, and I smiled my thanks.
We walked in, and I stopped to admire the interior. From the exterior, I knew this place was huge, but it did nothing to prepare me for how expensive everything looked.
Logan pulled me along, and I clung to his forearm a little tighter, especially when he led us to the ballroom, where the function was being held.
“This place is…” Overwhelming. Expensive. In-your-face. “…nice.”
