“It’ll be convenient for you. We’ll get you your driver’s license, baby. And then you can drive it wherever you need to go. Besides, I know you want a car.”
“I don’t want your car,” I clarified.
“I bought it with you in mind.”
I moved back a little until I could look at him fully, the water splashing around us. “Are you telling me you just bought that car?”
“Yes. Last week.”
I shook my head in disbelief and crossed my arms over my naked chest. Now I wished we hadn’t taken a bath after all. I didn’t want to talk about this naked. I didn’t want to talk about this, period.
“If you don’t want to drive me around anymore, just say so. I can go back to taking the bus. I was fine before you came into my life, and I would be fine going back to my usual routine.”
I stood up and the water ran down my body.
“Hayden, wait.”
I didn’t. I grabbed a towel and wrapped it around myself, walking out of the bathroom as quickly as I could. I didn’t want to stay in Logan’s room, knowing he would be out soon enough, so I walked to the guest bedrooms and collapsed on the bed without bothering to turn on the light.
Logan didn’t come to me. I heard his footsteps outside the door a few minutes after I got there, but he didn’t knock. I let out a small sigh in relief when he walked away.
I didn’t want to talk to him—at least, not now.
I didn’t know why I was feeling like this, only that I was.
About a half an hour later, the bedsheets had fully soaked in my damp skin, and laying there was no longer comfortable. I shifted to the side until I was lying on a dry part of the bed, and pulled the towel away from my body before I grabbed the blanket, covering myself with it.
I dozed off within minutes.
