I looked up in time to see him shoot me a thumbs up, right before a small frown appeared, then, it was as if all the blood drained from his face.

I frowned back but he motioned for me to look behind. At first, I didn’t know what he was talking about, then I noticed the empty seat next to mine. I blanched

I stood up quickly and looked around. Simon rushed his way over to me, the food forgotten.

“Evelyn,” he said, panic in his voice.

“Oh, my God. Where is he?”

Tears sprang to my eyes as I looked around the entire food court quickly, but I couldn’t find him anywhere. How could I have been so careless as to take my eyes off of him for even a minute in a crowded mall?
