My tongue mimicked his movements, and all I wanted was for the kiss to go on forever.
But then he pulled away, both of us breathing noticeably hard.
“Go, Evelyn. I’ll see you when I get home,” he said, turning me around. “And go quickly, before I decide to fuck all of my responsibilities off and take you against my desk right here.”
Well, that sounded like a good idea to me.
Jace laughed and I realized I must have said that out loud. I turned and looked at him one last time. He shot me a smile and a wink, and I was utterly, wholly, and completely charmed by him.
I walked out of the building in a daze.
I couldn’t even remember my ride down the elevator, and I didn’t think about how Jerry knew to have the car ready out front.
Jerry had taken one look at me and smiled faintly to himself.
I wanted to wipe that smug look off his face, but I wasn’t really a violent person by nature. And plus, I heard Jerry was an ex-Marine, so I was sure he could take me without much effort.
I climbed inside, through the door he had opened for me, and tried to ignore him the rest of the ride home.
Simon was there when I walked out later that afternoon to pick up Elliot from school.
