I attended the school, so they must have a record of me. If I call and ask, will they tell me? Or are there privacy laws preventing them from doing so? I can’t get a lawyer for this. I want to get it resolved quickly and quietly.

But wait—I don’t have to call the administrative office. I can simply call one of the teachers I had. And there’s one I remember—Tatiana, who taught piano to me and Yuna. All I want is for her to tell me that I—Iris Smith—studied with her. And if she wants, she can share some stories that might trigger more memories.

I pull out my phone and start typing, then stop. I don’t remember her last name. I Google for her first name plus “piano faculty at Curtis,” but it only returns her bio, without an office number or email address I can use to reach her. It does have her last name, but I can’t find her home number under Tatiana Seger. Smart of her to keep the information off the Internet, but it’s frustrating that I can’t just grab her contact info off Google.

“Bobbi,” I say, my voice rusty. I clear my throat. “Can you do me a favor?”

“What is it?”

“Do you know how to find someone’s cell phone number? If it isn’t listed?” Say yes.

“Yeah. It isn’t that hard.”

I let out a small sigh of relief. I wouldn’t know where to start looking for a reliable PI. There’s no way I can ask Byron or Julie for help with this. “Do you mind finding this woman’s number, then?” I copy and paste Tatiana’s info and text it to Bobbi.

She looks at her phone. “Shouldn’t be a problem.”

“Great. Thanks. Let me know how much it is, and I’ll take care of it.”

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t want Tony to know.” I can’t let him know. He’ll think I’m doubting him. And to be honest, part of me is ashamed I’m not taking him and Yuna at face value. But I can’t let go of my misgivings without checking them out first. Otherwise, they’re going to come back over and over again.

“Then I won’t tell him, but you don’t have to pay me. Consider it an engagement present.”

“Thank you. Regardless, I owe you one.”

Bobbi shrugs, looking slightly uncomfortable. “Now, are you well enough to get going?”

Not really. I don’t want to go anywhere until I can talk with Tatiana and get my answers, but… “Yeah. I think I’ve kept TJ and Tony waiting long enough.”

“They’re men. They’re used to it.”
