“Then how did she end up hiring me if nobody leaves?” I ask sarcastically, too frustrated to care that I sound like a grounded teenager.

He drains his coffee, his face mostly hidden behind the mug. “Maybe the previous employee had to move?” A careless shrug. “She does hire new people. Just not that often.” He gives me my morning java. “Now, enjoy a super-leisurely breakfast, and I’ll see you for lunch. And try to remember: it’s only a week.”

“But there are projects to do. And the funding!” I place my mug on the counter with a small thud as a new thought hits me. “I only went to Sam’s so I could get that donation for the children’s medical fund. Do you think he wired the money to Elizabeth?” I’m pretty sure the answer is a big fat no.

Tony snorts. “Are you kidding? That cheapskate?”

“Ugh. That’s horrible. It’s the least he should do.”

“Even if he offered it now, Elizabeth wouldn’t take it. He couldn’t have dangled more than fifty K or so.” Tony sneers at the amount.

But it’s no joke to me. That money represents a chance for someone, someone who could use a little miracle. “Fifty K is a lot. It can save a kid’s life! Make a real difference. I’ve seen the photos and letters, Tony. This mom said the foundation saved her daughter’s arm. Just think about that for a moment, how terrible it would be to not have a limb! That’s why I went to see Sam. It wasn’t just about the check.”

He nods and places a hand on my shoulder. “You’re right. I should be more considerate. I’ll send the foundation a check for five hundred.”

I blink at the casual way he speaks of giving away half a million dollars, like it doesn’t merit any forethought. “I didn’t bring this up to make you donate.”

“I know, but it’s important to you, so I don’t mind.”

I stare, trying to process it. When you have the kind of money Tony has, I guess it doesn’t matter. But his generosity still leaves me speechless.

“Why do you think I made all this money?” he asks.

“Uh…because you like being rich?”

“No. I did it for you.” He’s looking at me, his eyes entirely too solemn, and I become breathless as my chest swells with hot, sweet emotion. But something is fuzzy, wiggling in the back of my mind.

Finally, I figure it out. “But you didn’t know me back then.”

A shadow crosses his gaze. He takes my left hand and runs the pad of his thumb over my fingers, then rests it on the knuckle of my ring finger and looks into my eyes. “I knew I’d meet someone I’d want to protect and spoil.”

Tears start to prickle my eyes. This man is killing me with his love. I’ll never, ever meet another who loves me more…and there’s never going to be someone who I love more than him. If I could write music, I’d dedicate a thousand sonatas to him—my heart, my soul. To the man who is more critical to my existence than air or water. “You’ve ruined me for other men.”

He smiles. “I haven’t even started.”

We kiss—eagerly, sweetly. Our mouths fuse, and our tongues tangle. He tastes like Tony and a hint of coffee, and I devour him, loving the sound of his roughening breathing. The way we share the heated air around us.

His large hands glide upward, from my waist to my breasts, and I arch into him, wanting more. My nipples are tingling, already pointed, and I’m slick between my legs. I rock against his thick, stiff cock and let out a throaty moan. I want him inside me right now—big and hard and greedy. Giving me everything he has to give. Taking everything he wants to take.

The phone buzzes in Tony’s jacket. He ignores it, pulling me closer, fisting his fingers in my unbound hair. The phone buzzes again, this time against my breast, and I gasp.

He curses under his breath, pulling away slightly and taking out the phone. He scowls at it. “Wei.”

“Anything wrong?” I ask, remembering Tony’s dark mood on Sunday.

“No. Just a meeting I can’t miss.”

Damn it.I wish he could stay. I’m tempted to ask him to call in sick, but I know better. His company isn’t just some entity that generates cash. It’s responsible for everyone who works there, too. “Then I won’t hold you back,” I say, licking my lips for a lingering taste of him.

“I wish I could cancel it.”

“But you said you can’t.” I place a tender kiss on his forehead, then lightly stroke his crotch. “Just think about me all day,” I whisper. “While you’re in your meetings.”

He gives a ragged sigh, his lower lip sticking out a little. The unguarded, honest reaction is so adorable that I can’t help but laugh.

“I’ll be right here waiting for you to come home. Then we can continue without anything hanging over us.”

“Okay.” He gives me a small smile. “If you need anything, call.”
