“Thanks.” I hang up.
I thought if I knew how Sam got his start, I could find a way to deal with him. Instead, all I have is more questions. I look through the window at Iris gesturing wildly at Yuna, who’s clapping and wiping her eyes. Iris’s presence in Los Angeles must be costing Sam somehow. Otherwise, he would never try to make her leave…or die.
My head starts pounding. I press the spot between my eyebrows. My phone buzzes with a text.
Come on, stop ignoring me. Just one meeting. Face to face.
Whatever. Ryder is crazy—and stupid—if he thinks texting me every day with the same message is going to get me to see him. His betrayal with Lauren—and the whole fucking scene with Audrey—should be more than enough to satisfy his Hollywood drama quota. If not, he’ll have to find someone else to costar in his idiocy. I have more productive things to do with my time, and it’s better for his career if we don’t meet. I can’t guarantee I’ll leave that pretty face intact the next time we see each other.
Yuna here is because of him. This time that damned video produced a friend, but there’s no guarantee it won’t bring enemies as well. And Iris definitely has enemies.
I jump to my feet, suddenly too restless and annoyed to sit, and start pacing along the pool. Everything’s going so slowly. I understand that not even money can make things go faster, but it’s killing me that nothing’s getting resolved as fast as I’d like.
If I could, I’d tie myself to Iris permanently, so I could watch over her twenty-four seven. Instead, I have to settle for Bobbi. Assuming she’s done with her work today. Told TJ I’d buy out his cousin’s contract, but he said she’d never agree to it. Too damn professional.
Come on. That’s exactly the quality you’re looking for. She won’t ditch you for a better offer, leaving Iris unprotected.
I glance at my watch. It’s after lunch and Bobbi should’ve been in contact by now. Is she trying to get fired before she starts? TJ warned me three times that she really wanted to quit being somebody’s bodyguard.
Bobbi can do whatever she wants, but I’m not firing her. And she’s going to be tied to Iris until I take care of the danger to my woman—permanently.
