“Not difficult? It’s Rachmaninoff!”
Yuna looks genuinely puzzled at Julie’s shrill outburst. “So?”
“So. The woman says so.” Julie shrugs. “Well, it’s academic anyway. There’s only one piano.”
“I’m having another delivered,” Yuna says, grabbing more rice and green curry.
Julie shoots me an incredulous look. “Seriously? Two baby grands?”
I shrug. I’m not getting dragged into this weird pissing contest between the two women. Julie’s on her own.
“The new one is digital,” Iris says soothingly. “It’s just a duet.”
“We’re going to try it the day after tomorrow. You’re welcome to come listen if you like,” Yuna says.
“I think I will,” Julie says. “To see you play this ‘easy’ Rachmaninoff.”
“Okay.”
I glance at Iris, and she gives me a small shrug. Yuna isn’t being rude, but Julie is obviously spoiling for a fight.
It’s too bad she backed down. I’d like nothing more than for her to get herself in trouble with Iris. She’s Iris’s friend, but I know she isn’t too crazy about me. And like Yuna said earlier, blood counts. Julie will always side with Byron over me, and for that alone, she’ll always be someone I just tolerate.
