Tony shrugs. “No, it’s fine—”
“Why are they coming? We’re going to Z, not a war zone,” Julie interrupts.
“Mr. Kim can’t leave my side,” Yuna says. “That’s his job. And Bobbi’s supposed to be watching over Iris. It’s always better to be prepared, because you never know. And I bet Tony would rather relax than hover over us the entire time making sure we’re okay.”
My gaze darts back and forth. Yuna is totally low-stress and composed, but Julie’s another matter. She’s like a dog that can’t decide between lunging at someone’s neck or settling for barking.
Maybe I shouldn’t have asked Julie to join us. Except I don’t know how she’d feel if I did that. I wanted to make sure to include everyone, but maybe I didn’t think it through. “Why don’t we get going?”
“Yes,” Tony says, putting a hand at the small of my back. “What’s that about?” he asks under his breath, as Yuna and Julie file out ahead of us.
“Maybe Julie’s upset about something? I wonder if tonight just wasn’t that great for her. If it weren’t for Yuna, I’d consider canceling, but…”
His hand flexes against my back. “Don’t. Whatever problem Julie has can’t be dealt with right now, so just relax and enjoy yourself. Please?”
I lean my head against his shoulder. “Okay,” I say, even as a tiny knot of worry forms. Our night out might not end up the way I envisioned.
