“Wyatt,” James warned.
I sighed. I was being an ass and I knew it.
“You don’t have to bother. I’m walking back. There’s no way I’m getting on another of those beasts today,” Kate stubbornly confessed.
“Like hell. We’ve already ridden a good two miles out and you hit your head hard enough that you probably have a concussion.”
“That’s not any of your concern,” she said adamantly, causing a sharp pain to slice through my chest.
She stubbornly stood up, and even though she was a bit wobbly she started to walk away.
“Kate, you’re going in the wrong direction,” I told her as the others chuckled.
“Oh no, she’s bleeding,” Austin said. “I can smell it.”
Austin never handled blood well. As he dropped to the ground my wolf was on edge fearing the worst for our mate.
Thomas groaned. “Just make sure she gets back okay. Please. We’ll handle the drama queen.” He rolled his eyes towards Austin while Kate practically walked in a circle with no clue where to go.
“Fine,” I growled out.
I whistled for Rusty and mounted him before going after Kate.
“I’m not getting on that thing with you,” she said argumentatively.
“Like hell you aren’t,” I swore as I leaned down and swooped her up in front of me as I picked up speed.
She screeched and then grabbed hold of my arms for dear life.
I hated that her touch caused my entire body to relax.
We didn’t talk as we rode back to the barn. I helped her down and then into my truck.
She crossed her arms over her chest in defiance and I couldn’t help but stare at the way the motion pushed her breasts up.
She was hot and the hard on I was sporting after our ride was a clear indication of how much I wanted her physically. Emotionally I had nothing to offer her though, and I was pretty sure that using her for that sexy little body of hers was not going to go over so well.
This girl was nothing but trouble for me. I needed to just steer clear, but first I’d made a promise and I intended to keep it.
“Just drop me off at the door.”
“Fine,” I said.
She started to jump out but for some reason, I stopped her.
“Look, Kate, it’s nothing against you, I’m just not looking for a mate,” I told her honestly.
She gave me a smirk of a grin. “Good thing for you I lost faith in true mates a long time ago. I’ll never take a mate so you have nothing to worry about.”
She tossed her hair over her shoulder and walked into the clinic without a glance back.
What the hell was that supposed to mean?
