They all groaned.

“Are you kidding?” Thomas asked. “We’re having pizza when Kate cooked a real meal?”

Austin glared at me.

I shrugged. “You didn’t say what time. I thought I’d be done before they got here.”

I really didn’t know how to cook small. Being raised on a ranch with extra mouths always around, I was used to making big meals to fuel our ranch-hands. It wasn’t just therapeutic for me, but also got me out of the house when my parents were fighting.

The buzzer on the oven sounded and I set my plate down to turn and pull the hot gooey buns from the oven and rest them on the stovetop.

“Please,” James begged. “It’s torture just smelling that deliciousness.”

I blushed. The guys back home had always seemed to like my cooking, but no one had ever gotten on their knees and begged just from the smell of it.

“I’m not screwing up Austin’s plans,” I told them.

Austin groaned. “Just let them eat.”

I shrugged and conceded just as Wyatt walked in.

“The cinnamon rolls have to cool first and I’m going to be pissed if you pigs eat them all before I get one.”

I tried to escape, feeling like the walls were closing in around me just from Wyatt’s presence but his large body physically blocked my exit.

He looked a little confused.

“So we’re not having pizza?” he asked.

Austin groaned. “I can still order it if you want. But Kate cooked and James begged while the assholes drooled behind him. Who would rather eat meatloaf over pizza? You’re all a bunch of pansies.”

Thomas took his first bite of the meatloaf and groaned out loud.

“Nope. Call me whatever the hell you want, but this is the best damn meatloaf I’ve ever tasted. You’ve gotta try this,” he told Wyatt before shoving the fork into his mouth.

Wyatt’s face morphed from mildly irritated to sheer pleasure. He looked so sexy that I was instantly flooded with arousal. My eyes widened as I sucked on my bottom lip and pressed my thighs tightly together just praying that no one noticed over the smells of the food.

The way Wyatt’s pupil’s darkened as he stared at me told me he knew.

“Wow, that’s really delicious, Kate. I didn’t know you could cook,” he finally said.

My jaw dropped in shock and then my arousal turned instantly to anger.

“Yeah, well there’s a hell of a lot you don’t know about me.”

I turned on my heels and marched to my bedroom with my meal in hand, swearing under my breath, daring them to eat the last cinnamon roll.

Wyatt didn’t follow or say anything at all. I could feel his presence in the next room. My wolf was begging me to go to him, but my pride wouldn’t allow it. Besides, I already knew that mating didn’t last. It was all a big hoax.

Wolves really didn’t mate for life, so what was the point of it all?

My wolf growled in protest at my thoughts, but I ignored her, put on my headphones, and cranked up my music loud enough to drown out the guys in the next room.

After eating the rest of my meal, I pulled out a sketch book and laid out across my bed to draw. I was so invested in my work that I didn’t even notice when the door opened.

A hand on my back made my heart race as a scream left my lungs. I rolled away and with my feet flying in the air, I landed on the floor with a thud.

Ripping off my headphones I stared up into Wyatt’s eyes.
